Solidarity Gig - Liberty Hall![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Put your money where your mouth is. On Saturday, 17th of May, Aisha is gonna be performing at Liberty Hall (Eden Quay). The show starts at 8.30 Pm and the price at the door will be 10 euros. The money from the door will go to Aisha and Bankole as they are in need of money for medical treatment, food, and funds for the endless bureacratic nonsense they face as political refugees from the United States. Aisha's music is a great blend of blues, soul and jazz and the lady has a great set of tubes, seriously. Now, let's put your money where your mouth is. But seriously - the woman is talentless and tuneless - save your tenner and your ear drums....buy a Mariah Carey CD, equally as talentless but not nearly as arrogant
The previous comment is pretty disgusting considering the writer may actually be aware of the predicament Aisha and Bankole are in. It was a stroke of luck that they happened to meet someone who was in a position to slot them into that gig in Liberty Hall, for a minumum amount of money. Believe me, if the RTS heads and all the other unwashed unworking (of which category i belong to) could afford to set up gigs of this magnitude, she'd prefer to sing for them, instead of a bunch of rich fucks. But the kids aren't buying the cds or the books, so how the fuck to you expect these people to feed themselves?
If Aisha is struggling to make a living then I would respectfully suggest that she turn her hand to something that she might have a talent for - singing and song writing are just not her strong points. Unfortunately for her not one of the working men or women that I spoke to on MayDay wanted to hear someone whinging to music about the fact that they can't get a record deal....I'm sure that Aisha would like us to believe it's because she won't sell out..in truth it's because she just wouldn't sell!
Indymedia.ie has a policy of deleting advertisements and has made an exception for fundraising events for charitable causes. I personally am in favour of removing this post, but there is a lack of consensus among other editors about this so it stays.
However, it would be better if you added your event to protest.net and did not take up valuable newswire space.
Thank you.
Looks like you didn't get your nap this afternoon, Larry. Personal taste is fair enough. Nobody is required to automatically enjoy an artisite and it's fair enough to make comment.
But you are telling people "Don't pay this woman your money." We all need to make a living and I'm sure if Aisha had a home and a nation she may very well get herself a dayjob, but as it stands she is on the road, in exile, singing for her supper, trying to find a homeland. Next time you're looking for somewhwere to vent your frustrations perhaps you could be a bit more constructive than steering people away from helping refugees.
i can understand that the US is a fake-ass democracy, but what exactly is this person seeking asylum from? is she facing prosecution at the hands of the bullshit american legal system? or is she facing death and danger from state and federal 'law' enforcement authorities. it seems to me that there are a lot of other motherfuckers out there clamoring for asylum who do literally live with someone else's gun to their heads, in that if their request for asylum here in ireland is not granted they will most likely go to prison or death in the third world state that they are trying to escape from.
it seems to me that the possibility of aisha is facing death in the states if she is returned there is very very slim, though if this is the case i would definitely like to know the particulars. as it stands, big fucking deal, i'm an exile from america too. if i go back, it'll sure as hell suck, but nobody's gonna shoot me upon return. all nations have maximum quotas that they can fill as far as asylum is concerned, and it seems like a bit of a waste of resources to apply for asylum from the States...
that being said....
i suppose i can't make judgments as to who is more 'deserving' of asylum, but i think that the person who almost definitely is facing death upon return would probably be the first choice, but hey, who the fuck am i to say?
Aisha and Bankole is not seeking asylum at the moment. There is not chance to get a asylum when you are from "the great democracy" USA. The thing now is to get a employee permit in Sweden, but that cost money.
If you wonder we they left US I recommend you to look at http://www.geocities.com/exiledone2002/howandwhy.html
There I think all your questions should be answered.
And Aisha, good look whit the gig!
