Secret police video RTS

category national | miscellaneous | news report author Tuesday May 06, 2003 12:58author by The secret policemans ball - Spying on RTS Report this post to the editors

Irelands very own secret police were busy Monday filming RTS from the shadows of Parnell st. Pictured is one of the comical couple (the other wore a light blue rain jacket). They switched the side of the street that they filmed from a number of times, perhaps to make them harder to spot. If so boys, leave the light switched off on the camera next time!

reality tv has ruined my life....i have no privacy nowhere to relax and it is disgusting to know that anyone can break into your house and damage and destroy all you have ever owned.......not only has this disturbed and upset my daughter we are left feeling like we may as well live on the streets as we do not know who has sets of keys to our house or why any person would be so sick as to steal from people who have nothing...is it any wonder people have to steal to replace things...wat sort of message is this giving anyone about the law.....

Just because you're not paranoid doesn't mean they're not out to get you ;)

And it only makes sense to video citizens so that when shit happens we'll know who to charge. Why stop at videoing? I want to tape their every word, analyse their every gesture, mine their very thoughts. The guilty are everywhere.

Much and all as you might wish you and you cohorts could burn and destroy evil capitalists' property in peace, the rest of society doesn't care to have their stuff ruined, so it only stands to reason that the Gardai would video demonstrators so that when shit happens, they'll know who to charge.

Big brothers allows us to demonstrate even though we might break the law. We are lucky that big brother does not just lock us up straightaway. This shows that big brother loves us and gives us freedom.

Hell, you post the pics of the freaking demonstrations right here. Maybe they are videotaping you so that when shit happens, as often does in protests, they can know who to charge.

Again, if protesters didn't frequently break shit, burn things, threaten and/or attack people, it wouldn't be necessary. Think about that next time you want to call the gardai savages!

i dont like the notion of surveillance but I am not worried if they want to video as I dont feel what Im doing is wrong. why should I hide from the guards when I dont intend to cause trouble. in fact use your video to see that RTS is not a violent event.

Its only for their records in the event of something going wrong, legal smeagle.

but what I think is funny is the notion of these detectives sitting around drinking tea and watching the video as part of their job.

this fashion fad (thats what it is) of wearing face scarves is bullshit. what have you got to hide - if you believe in something at least have the balls to show your face and stand up for your opinions. Unless there is smoke or tear gas being fired stop playing the adventure game.

gargoyle your quite right. Big brother loves us and he vidoes us for our own protection. We love big brother.

But a significant number of them are as evidenced by the attack on RTS for which 6 of them are being tried. Their colleagues although not all actively taking part in these assaults on the people they're supposed to protect certainly didn't rush in to arrest their criminal colleagues.

Not a very impressive sight.

Personally I'd rather be protected from those Gardai than most of the people at RTS.

I'm sure there are good people in the guards, but they're unwillingness to arrest and restrain their savage "colleagues" tars them all with the same brush.

Where's the outraged statements from the Garda Representatives Association about the criminal assaults carried out by their colleagues?

Until we see that, then the Gardai are represented by their lowest common denominator because they haven't tried to distance themselves from them.

Similarly we've seen the Gardai complicit in the flouting of the highest laws in our land by denying citizens access to the illegally present USAF at Shannon airport.

There are scumbags out of uniform and there are scumbags in uniform. The big difference is that the ones in uniform have been given too much authority.

Did any of you guys ever stop to think that maybe there wouldn't be a need for police to keep an eye on you guys if some of the protesters didn't BURN THINGS, THREATEN PEOPLE, AND BREAK SHIT?!?!

The gardai aren't savages, they're trying to protect the lot of us from the savages, nolympics!

went up to see what was happening when that one guy was being brought away (arrested) by the Garda. The one with the blue jacket videotaped me from 2 metres away. He wouldnt 'move on'. I had to go up to him and comment on his amazing undercover uniform for him to actually move.
I found it very intimidating. And the fact that they're wearing civilian cloths while videoing....gaawwww

Jeff, protesting is not something that people in the south have just gotten into. Special branch cops have been videotaping activists for years. Also photographing them and infiltrating meetings or waiting outside to follow people home and establish where they live. there are also numerous instances where branchmen have used phony warrants to search peoples homes because of their political involvement. remember that in ireland we still live under emergency powers, never recinded though the war is over. our individual rights to be free of political harassment and free to engage in political activity are ambiguous at best.

We haven't gone away you know. Yes the island of Ireland is no stranger to the not so covert surveillance activities of the secret police, everyone from RUC Special branch, FRU, to SAS, to CIA and to Ian paisley's THIRD FORCE have been hiding amongst Irelands rural hedge rows since the 1960s. And many Irish people are glad of the protective gaze of HM government forces intervention in our daily lives. Maybe when Tony dismantels his watch towers wthe Irish government will allow him to reposition them down south, afterall Tony and his security forces could certainly teach us micks a thing or two about covert surveillance activities.

In that they don't identify themselves as police men and attempt to appear like a normal member of the public. They appear like joe public, but are _secretly_ policemen. This is not in anybody's head.

Also, sure the uniformed guards (ie non secret police) are responsible for crowd control. They also have people with video cameras to learn how to corral crowds and so on. The secret police, on the other hand, use their footage to build profiles of the people who attend, and especially organise these events. They use this footage to identify key figures who they can concentrate on when and if they wish to supress troublesome movements.

At the moment the pictures that were taken yesterday are being analysed in the puzzle palace on Harcourt St. The individual photos are being added to the files of the people concerned and all this information is being added to the wall chart showing links between different movements and groups which can then be analysed using the methodologies developed in organisational behaviourist research to identify key 'information hubs' in informal networks. That's how it works, although I'd very much doubt that the guards have nearly enough info. to build up anything more than a rudimentary skeleton of the direct action movement yet. I'll bet, for one, that they are still trying to get a face-check of that handsome rogue James McDonald.

...then you could have an adventure in your mind, where they are the Stasi and they are going to come to your house and rape you and then gas you.

The above being a more exciting scenario than the fact that Gardai often film street protests as a record in crowd control. Protests are something we on the southern half of this island have recently only gotten into, both from the point of protestor and Gardai. They will watch these videos and say "This is how you manage a protest."This is something they negated to do last year, resulting in chaos and stupidity on behalf of the uniformed Gardai.

Remember, our police farce are still way behind the rest of the E.U in crowd control matters-it was only a few years ago, when Prince Charles visited us, that we saw Gardai on the roof of the G.P.O armed with, not sniper rifles or even Heckelrs to protect the Prince with, but Uzis, a weapon designed for rapid fire, spraying lead type scenarios...the Gardai are still only out of their nappies...

i must have a collection of 50 of their faces from videoing about the isle of erron these past few months. They film us we film them. I bet they never imagined that sometimes behind them is someone filming their little viewfinder screen to document what and who it is they are interested in. This country is too small for secrets. Wait till these guys hit the pubs - which Mcdowell wants them to do - sparks will fly.
