May Day (the political version) may have origins in Chicago, USA ... but Americans don't know much about history and today it has all been erased and replaced by....

- - - - -
Loyalty Day, 2003

By the President of the United States of America
A Proclamation

http://www.whitehouse.gov/news/releases/2003/04/20030430-26.html

To be an American is not a matter of blood or birth. Our citizens are bound by ideals that represent the hope of all mankind: that all men are created equal, endowed with unalienable rights to life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. On Loyalty Day, we reaffirm our allegiance to our country and resolve to uphold the vision of our Forefathers.

Our founding principles have endured, guiding our Nation toward progress and prosperity and allowing the United States to be a leader among nations of the world. Throughout our history, honorable men and women have demonstrated their loyalty to America by making remarkable sacrifices to preserve and protect these values.

Today, America's men and women in uniform are protecting our Nation, defending the peace of the world, and advancing the cause of liberty. The world has seen again the fine character of our Nation through our military as they fought to protect the innocent and liberate the oppressed in Operation Iraqi Freedom.

[blah blah blah]

...the fact that the Bush speech was added as a comment, rather than an article in itself, makes it okay by me.

james, i dont think red jade posted this as propaganda or that ray is defending such propaganda.

it was put there for the info of indy readers.

there are those who would object to sppechs by fidel being posted here, because they object to the conent.

Why reprint twice the sickening speech of Bush praising America values "as the hope of all mankind"?

Indymedia gives space to the idea that the US is
,"defending the peace of the world, and advancing the cause of liberty". Really?

I must admit I don't see the irony . A bit like saying "all Corkmen are silly B%~#es" and then laughing at anyone who gets annonyed by it ? I'm supposed to see the humour and sarcasm to the Zionist propaganda in " IDF WAR AGAINST TERRORISM" story below too but dispite a good sense of humour (ask them in the Ha'apenny inn) it doesn't make me laugh.

This new turn in Indymedia policy is interesting.

The attendence was poor and the atmosphere was weak. The SP bloke shouting chants was great i thought he was louder than the megaphone the SWP had and he had more sucess at geeting people to reply to the chants.

As per usual the Trade Union bureaucrats have attempted to destroy the Mayday event in Dublin and are suceeding at a rapid pace, all in all though it wasn't that bad of a day.

I hear its the new SWP front made up of Boyd Barrett and Allen who have buried the hatchet (possibly in each others back)

The event was extremely poor and by all accounts weak. The blame lays entirely at the feet of the TU bureaucrats and inactivists
