Yet another FARC atrocity

When will Irish people who romanticize the FARC and kindred terror groups in Colombia learn how ill-informed and immoral such support can be ?

From the BBC
Bike bomb kills Colombian boy

Rebels have forced people to carry bombs before
A 10-year-old Colombian boy has died after rebels apparently tricked him into riding a bicycle loaded with explosives to a military checkpoint.
Police say the frame of the bicycle had been filled with explosives which could have been detonated by remote control.

The blast on Thursday in the town of Fortul in Arauca state also injured three civilians.

The authorities blamed the attack on rebels from the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia (FARC) who have been fighting a series of elected governments for almost four decades.

The group has been known to use bicycle bombs in the past, but in general have left them parked before they exploded.

The rebels have also used dogs and mules to carry bombs and they have forced hostages to drive cars loaded with explosives towards military installations.

But the BBC's Jeremy McDermott in Medellin says this is the first time a child has been used as an unwitting bomber.

I do not mean to glorrify the FARC but what about the many paramiltary "death squads" including the so-called United self-defense forces of columbia or AUC. These death squads are romning columbia Supressing and killing, peasants and assasinating Union leaders and are invloved with cocane and popies much more then the FARC are because the lanlords who support these groups are actualy growing, trafiking and profitting off of popies rather then just providing safe spaces for them and taxing them like the FARC and using there money for funding the army and education.

As far as Columbia being a democracy is concered, that might be somewhat true but the government has a lot of blood on it's hand's. They have killed many people since the begening of the cold war. Nome Chomsky called it the genocidal democracy that ahs worked colsesly with the paramilitaries. As far as free elections they were free outside rebel and paramilitary controlled territory. however both the guerrillas and the paramiliaries have interfierd with them, forceing the people uder there control to vote for the canidate of there choice in the last election. The paramilitaries control more territores than the Gurrillas which is why the coervative canndate whon. Not exactually a fair election.

Mr McKenna:
It appears you are unaware of the nature of the Government of Colombia. Both the president and the congress are freely elected. One may not like the government very much--I don't--but I will support Colombian democracy against murderers and kidnappers.
And that's yet another reason why the FARC should be condemned--their activities stifle the development of a democratic human rights-based progressive movement. Faced with the choice between the state and the FARC, most Colombians hold their nose and choose the state, because the prospect of a Colombia ruled by murderers, kidnappers and drug barons is too dreadful to contemplate.

If we want to stop terrorism in Colombia a good way would be to stop the millions given annually to the right-wing death squads smuggling cocaine into the US for the CIA.

The US also gives millions every year in grants for hrbacides to kill coca crops. This is a stupid and pointless exercise and cause much death and illness to farmers and wildlife where such spraying is done.

Of course the very very expensive herbacides hace Pennsylvania and Massachussetts stamped on the tin! Subsidys to US business un the form of anti-drug war in Colombia- what will they think of next- :sub-letting an entire coutry to it's oil friends?

""It was proven that the recent bombings in colombia were the work of right wing colombian junta militia, attempting to blacken FARC's name."

Which bombings ? There have been hundreds. FARC has killed hundreds of civilians in the past few months, not to mention killing a number of the working-class men and women who make up the National Army.

As to blackening FARC's image--whose image of the FARC ? If you're talking about their image in Colombia, it couldn't be much blacker. Most Colombians despise them. But if you mean the image held by those who romanticize the FARC from afar, well it seems that these are either incorrigibly naive or culpably impervious to truth and morality.

AS to the other posting (me like ...) just how stupid is that ?

You should stop romantising about Colombian state junta security forces, just because they wear a uniform doesn't make them god almighty, more like Idi amin. The facts are the Colombian state junta security forces are not reknowned for their concern and care for the Colombian masses. This is shown by Colombian state juntas constant violations of the human rights of colombian peasants, trade unionists, nuns and priests and anyone who sticks up for the poor of colombia. It was proven that the recent bombings in colombia were the work of right wing colombian junta militia, attempting to blacken FARC's name. Luckily it was discovered that the bombing was by state junta. It just goes to show the dirty dirty tricks colombian state junta get up to, to turn the colombian Poor against FARC.
