news report
Saturday April 12, 2003 19:13 by Aine Fox - Belfast Anti War Movement
International Day Of Action. Several hundred people marched in Belfast City Centre this afternoon. The march was lively, peaceful. As part of a global anti war movement - Belfast Anti War Movement marched in Belfast City Centre today as part of International Day of Action. Several hundred people met at the Arts College where a few speakers opened the event ( Carmel Gates-NIPSA and a Representative from youth against war) and subsequently walked to the US consulate - the speaker ( representative from Schools Against War)voiced concern for the Iraqi people who are now under US/UK occupation. The march was a sucessful illustration of how people working and communicating together is beneficial in attempting to bring a movement together that genuiunely care not just for the cause but also care about the people who are marching alongside you. In the subject of caring about people and building a sucessful movement that shows they care - those peaceful protestors who where unjustly attacked and unfairly arrested and charged following Tuesday's peaceful sit down are up in Belfast Laganside Court on Thursday 17th April @ 10.30am. We as a movement need to show those charged and also those within the system that we care. Show up - Show your support.
