G8 April 13th Meeting![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Butcher of Chechyna meets the coalition of the killing Public meeting this Sunday 13th April STOP THE G8 GLobalise Resistance Rory Hearne (Secretary- Member of SWP) Pat Clafferty (Treasurer- Member of Green Party) Garrett Mullan (PRO- Member of the Socialist Party)
June 1st G8: George Bush in Europe- International Anti- War Demonstration Public Meeting this Sunday 13th April
Speakers: Joe Carolan (Globalise Resistance) Patricia Mc Kenna (Green Party MEP) Des Geraghty (SIPTU President) Christophe Aguiton (International Co-ordinator for the G8 protest)
The G8 Summit returns to Europe this year, following its last meeting in an isolated area of the rockies after being rocked by the mass global resistance movement demonstrations in Genoa of July 2001. Globalise Resistance is organizing a pubic information on the G8 with a view to building a campaign to mobilize Irish people to the protest on June 1st.
No to war- Defend democracy- Put people before Profit At the heart of the Irish government’s response to the war is a concern as to the interests of US corporations in Ireland. The Global protest movement against the war is setting out on a determined march to resist the power of the transnational corporations which exercise undue weight over global social policy, the G8 and the power that transnational corporations have in everyday life. The interests of profit have seen not only the war in Iraq but an attempted coup in Venezuela.
The G8 summit involving the world’s seven richest countries plus Russia will be a meeting of the butcher of Chechnya- Vladimir Putin- with the coalition of the killing.
Globalise Resistance is an umbrella organization that involves various groups, political parties, non- governmental organizations as well as individuals campaigning against the Global Agenda of G8 and the policies of the World Trade Organisation.
Rory Hearne Secretary of the Campaign said: “The G8 summit of the world’s most powerful countries will take place in Evian near the French- Swiss border. Mobilisation to protest at the lack of democracy and accountability, yet enormous power of the G8, is taking place on a European wide level and possibly beyond”.
He added that: “Given the current circumstance in Iraq, there will exist a profound after effect in terms of political consequences. The coalition might want to call on the Iraqi information officer to issue press statements on their behalf as the legitimacy of their Iraqi campaign crumbles. The presence of George Bush and Tony Blair at this summit in France, will be an opportunity to mobilize an international expression of revulsion as to what is happening in Iraq”.
Globalise Resistance will be organizing for as many Irish people to attend the international demonstration at Evian which will have an anti- war and a defence of democracy as two key themes. Ends

then we marched to another bit of the fence, got tear gassed.
absolutely worthless protest tactic.
every member of GR asked me to carry an SWP flag or wear a red bandana.
what will GR be doing this time?
where have their meetings been for the last year?
You have raised a couple of valid questions. However I would appreciate your identity because I do find it difficult to discuss with someone who is anonymous but at the same time attacks GR.
As teh PRO for GR, and as a member of the Socialist Party, I am investing time in organising GR into being an effective campaigning voice that facilitates a broad range of groups and opinions.
At any meeting, organisations are free to sell/ distribute their material. I urge you to come to teh meeting on Sunday because GR needs not only people to go to protests etc but it needs some structure on it.
It has already mobilised many people through the anti- capitalist campaign though since the war started in Afghanistan it has not featured as a campaigning force.
If you believe in the need for a broad camgaigning body taking up issues such as the lack of democracy in society, global inequality and so on then GR is a potential body.
It will only survive and build as a credible body if it also builds up a membership, structures and finances of its own, then it will not find itself being wound up by any one organisation.
The IAWM has been a very good example of how groups, parties and individuals can work together. GR can follow on this.

GR have posted details about this meeting on the newswire.
Enough already.
Another bus will be organised if enough people want to do this for themselves. Some want to go early and scope out the situation so we are well aware of what to expect when we get there.
No red bloc for us! Get in touch.
