'Eco-anxiety' affects 78% of children under 12, a crisis that teachers say they are unable to cope with, new polling by Greenpeace has found. The solution? More ruthless exposure of children to alarmist material.

A Bus to Evian

category national | miscellaneous | news report author Wednesday April 09, 2003 12:41author by alternativebus Report this post to the editors

Want to go to Evian? Dont want to march with a political party? Get on board!!

As far as we know the only group organising busses to Evian so far is Globalise Restisance.
We want to change that.
For a bus to take us there with no paper selling or hassle along the way, join the good bus.
It is difficult to organise things when you are busy with your day to day life, but people have to take their own resposibility and start doing things for ourselves. We cant just sit back and let the political parties organise everything.
With the GR bus it will be difficult to avoid marching with the Socialist bloc, the Red Bloc. Which is fine if you're a socialist.
This may not be the fault of GR but we want to provide an alternative. We need people to get in coontact and get active with organising a bus for the non politically aligned.
If you are interested please e-mail us at [email protected]
Thanks

Most of us are up for the protest village as well, so it'll be a week and a half/two week effort. So there's one green/black bus hoped for, if enough interest collects

As I understand it GR (alright, alright... the SWP) is not organising the buses to Evian but has just taken the initiative to call a meeting to discuss mobilising a broader Irish delegation.

If that's the case then it might be a good idea for those talking about an "alternative bus" to go the meeting and give their input there. Maybe an SWPer can correct me if I am wrong.

The whole point of a front is that it's not just for members of the controlling organisation, it's supposed to attract people who wouldn't otherwise join. The important question in identifying a front is whether the policy of the organisation is controlled by another organisation. In the case of GR, the answer is Definitely.

The fact is that people on the buses that went to Genoa all ended up marching with the Red Bloc. We are not saying that all members of GR are the SWP, we are simply trying to provide an alternative for those who want to go and march as individuals or in a bloc of their choosing.

June 1st G8: George Bush in Europe- International Anti- War Demonstration

Public Meeting this Sunday 13th April

Speakers:

Joe Carolan (Globalise Resistance)

Patricia Mc Kenna (Green Party MEP)

Des Geraghty (SIPTU President)

Christophe Aguiton (International Co-ordinator for the G8 protest)

The G8 Summit returns to Europe this year, following its last meeting in an isolated area of the rockies after being rocked by the mass global resistance movement demonstrations in Genoa of July 2001. Globalise Resistance is organizing a pubic information on the G8 with a view to building a campaign to mobilize Irish people to the protest on June 1st.

No to war- Defend democracy- Put people before Profit

At the heart of the Irish government’s response to the war is a concern as to the interests of US corporations in Ireland. The Global protest movement against the war is setting out on a determined march to resist the power of the transnational corporations which exercise undue weight over global social policy, the G8 and the power that transnational corporations have in everyday life. The interests of profit have seen not only the war in Iraq but an attempted coup in Venezuela.

The G8 summit involving the world’s seven richest countries plus Russia will be a meeting of the butcher of Chechnya- Vladimir Putin- with the coalition of the killing.

Globalise Resistance is an umbrella organization that involves various groups, political parties, non- governmental organizations as well as individuals campaigning against the Global Agenda of G8 and the policies of the World Trade Organisation.

Rory Hearne Secretary of the Campaign said: “The G8 summit of the world’s most powerful countries will take place in Evian near the French- Swiss border. Mobilisation to protest at the lack of democracy and accountability, yet enormous power of the G8, is taking place on a European wide level and possibly beyond”.

He added that: “Given the current circumstance in Iraq, there will exist a profound after effect in terms of political consequences. The coalition might want to call on the Iraqi information officer to issue press statements on their behalf as the legitimacy of their Iraqi campaign crumbles. The presence of George Bush and Tony Blair at this summit in France, will be an opportunity to mobilize an international expression of revulsion as to what is happening in Iraq”.

Globalise Resistance will be organizing for as many Irish people to attend the international demonstration at Evian which will have an anti- war and a defence of democracy as two key themes.
