Thousands participate in rally against Garda violence

category national | miscellaneous | news report author Thursday May 09, 2002 22:35author by Daithi Mac Sithigh - Indymediaauthor email macsithd at tcd dot ie Report this post to the editors

A short audio selection and two speeches from today's event

Audio from today's protest at Pearse St. Garda station and Dame Street - participants on why they came to protest, and speeches from Ivana Bacik (professor of criminal law) and Amanda Moloney (Indymedia journalist). MP3 and Windows Audio formats. If the TCD.IE links don't work for you then try the INDYMEDIA.ORG links (same audio files)

The first audio clip contains answers from four members of the huge crowd telling their reasons for coming to the protest against Garda violence. They are Rosemary (from Irishtown), Andrew (a student who travelled with the Critical Mass and attended RTS on Monday), an unidentified protester holding a "Rambo Free Zone" placard, and Tony O'Donnell, a student union officer. This clip also contains sounds from the protest and subsequent march - and the resonant call of "Whose Streets? Our Streets?" as led by Joe Carolan.
