Controversy has erupted over claims that a website set up by Short
Strand Nationalists is operating a sectarian vetting policy.

The website (at www.32s.org) has been attracting support from
Republican sympathisers, but has also been receiving criticism
from local people in the know - who have been accusing the site of
being 'rich in biased propaganda value and economical with the
truth.' And to prove the point, the webmaster who operates the
guestbook has been instantly erasing all messages from anyone
who refers to incidents, which expose Nationalists part in interface
violence in East Belfast.

The webmaster has banned any contributor who poses difficult
questions, and has even set up the site to corrupt any mention of
Cluan Place, the small Protestant cul-de-sac which Republicans
are attempting to incorporate into the much larger Short Strand
area because of it's strategic location. The banning of the word
CLUAN was done to prevent anyone quoting the address of Cluan
Place website (www.cluanplace.co.uk) which puts a completely
different perspective on the interface conflict there.

It appears that contributors are likely to be banned from the site if
they mention: -

* the fact that around 20 Nationalists kicked a group of Australian
tourists unconscious in May 2001, when they mistook them for
Protestants.

* the fact that 5 Protestants (including children) have been shot and
injured by IRA gunmen from the Nationalist Clandeboye Gardens.

* The fact that things were quiet recently until the launch of the
Short Strand siege book/video. Knowing that many visitors were
on their way expecting a war scene. Nationalists started trouble to
avoid embarrassment.

* or you could go to Short Strand, drive in and out or past it, then
post a message revealing that there is no sign of a siege, and invite
others to go there on a surprise visit.

Some of the banned contributors have condemned the websites
discriminatory policies, which they say amounts to blatant
sectarianism.

"It says a lot about their case when they have to erase other
peoples views rather than respond to them," said one of those
banned.

"Everyone should enter their guestbook and challenge there
sectarian censorship policies" he added.

i have the a great deal of respect for the anti war movement and consider myself as very anti war personally. although as usual i am not suprised by the selective opinions of the "trendy leftys".

let me make it clear what the peelers did was wrong and the ppl had the right to protest and i support and respect that right, but y is it when ppl in the short strand for example are beaten off their own streets for defending their homes and families against attack because the RUC/PSNI refuse to do so, why is it then that the silence from these same ppl is deafening? where r they at the rallies to call for an end to communities living under siege, IN THEIR OWN CITY!
why weren't they ranting and raving about the RUC/PSNI when they almost killed ppl in this area for example a community worker at that!!!

as i said i respect ur stance and i would happily join u in ur protests, as i have before, but i would call on u to oppose all attacks on innocent ppl and not to be selective in ur out cries as it might not be to trendy to support the ones up in ardoyne or in the short strand.

The police did exercise as much brutality as they could safely get away with at this protest, but the main problem was some protestors trying to prevent others from protesting!
Those who passively lay down and blocked the road, were told by other
demonstrators,(who felt blocking the pavement was sufficient) to get of the road as this was a peaceful protest. There is nothing violent in lying on a road, but it is effective,
as for the pavement watch out for prams!

None of these pictures depict the beatings you're inferring happened.

You cannot be use anti violence, peaceful protests, in the face of such brutality by the PSNI. Those who organise and encourage young people to sit down, and be manhandled and beaten by the peelers, should allow them to retaliate, and fight back against the peelers, to this end, send protestors to martial arts classes. I can gaurantee, they will retaliate against PSNI brutality, and if we encourage the onlookers to retaliate too, we can have a serious riot situation in the middle of the commericial retail centre of Belfast. Think of how much it will cost retailers to fix the damage to their shops etc. After this retailers, business people, will make sure the PSNI behave themselves to avoid a riot ensuing and damage to shops, retail and commericial properties.

The photographs above show it all, in fact whilst they onle capture one case of police brutality, I saw several others when I was dragged behind the police vans, such as 1 guy being held by 5 peelers whilst one of them punched him in the head.
I think the police were trying to get people behind the vans so they could beat people up without the press seeing it happen.

this device is often used in ·nodal· structures which the readers will know the internet is and some readers will know it is my favoured approach to Indymedia.

The Northern Ireland Police Service

are also in a loop.
and this evening we can ·all· agree on this.
We have a new legitimate ·foe· you might say.

For the benefit of some,
The NIPS is the reconstruction of the Royal Ulster Constabulary, the RUC.
The RUC was a reconstruction of the Royal Irish Constabulary.the "RIC".
The Garda Siochana are also a reconstruction of the RIC and their Dublin members hold a connection to the Dublin Metropolitan Constabulary. The "DMC", one of whom's members saved a cat and a child from a buring building at the turn of the last century near Burke Quay. There is still a monument.

Both the RIC and DMC were formal regimented and volunteer militias formed in the nineteenth century from a proto-police force formed by British Politician and "LawMaker" Robert Peel.

They were intended for the London Metropolitan area and to this day the "Met" but not the "City" police look to the same group as the DMC, RIC, RUC and Garda Siochana for "roots".

It is almost a cliché to write one must treat the "root" of the problem, but there you go.

Peel (hence the nordy slang ·peelers·) was experimenting in urban order.

Hew could have chosen the European mainland option saved money on arming thugs and vigilantes at less cost than regular troops, and backed speculative rebuilding of the narrow streets of cramed poverty that had turned nineteenth century Dublin and London into "cesspools" of crime, murder and exploitation.

...do we need reminding that the vice habits of Victorian gentlemen ran to a medien encounter with a prostitute every one and a half days?

Today's forces still bear that sordid history too.
There is consistent evidence and indeed ·need· for open, public and ahem....
independent inquiry into collusion between Police Forces ahem....north and south and organised crime, vice, and the ahem...·death squads·

Thank you to all those people who protested against "WAR"
and for "democracy"
"justice"
against the US president Bush yesterday had had to endure the handling of this Police force.

cookstown gun misuse
The statelet of Nortern Ireland has the highest concentration of licensed handguns in Europe.
These are legally carried for "self protection".
Amongst the current investigations of collusion between Northern Ireland's security forces and Loyalist paramilitary groups is the investigation into bullets which were smuggled out of "HM" possesion in to Loyalist arms into Nationalist bodies. http://www.psni.police.uk/newsfiles/blankpress.asp?ID=1855
At 9pm on Monday April 7, two masked men, one armed with a handgun, entered a shop in Main Street, Kircubbin, and demanded cash. The two men then made off with a sum of money in a Ford Fiesta in the direction of Portaferry. Two female shop assistants in the premises at the time of the robbery were unhurt.

CHILD STRUCK BY BB PELLET IN NEWCASTLE, CO DOWN 07/04/2003

Detectives are investigating an incident in Dunwellan Pk, Newcastle around 8pm on Saturday the 5th of April in which a nine year old girl was injured whilst playing with friends.

The young girl was standing on a 2ft wall when something caused her to fall. She sustained a badly grazed cheek and upper lip and was taken to hospital. Doctors discovered a small wound on her forehead containing a foreign body, this was removed and found to be a pellet from a BB gun.

Police have carried out house to house enquiries locally and are appealing to anyone who may have seen anyone with a BB gun in the area on Saturday evening to come forward.
