We are asking everyone, particularly women, to bring pots and spoons/ lids and to make our opposition to the war in Iraq heard by our government. The pots are to symbolize the effects of sanctions – empty food pots resulting from sanctions and war and the noise will symbolize the horror and noise of bombing as Iraqi women struggle to look after their families.
In other cities around the world protesters have banged out their opposition to this war. We know that every night in Barcelona protesters create a symphony of protest by banging pots for twenty minutes from 10pm. We have heard this is truly impressive.
We are asking people to come to the Dail on Wednesday and let our Government know that we want them to stop their support for this barbaric war.
All Welcome. Speakers, songs and plenty of sound.

Jump To Comment: 1 2 3Would you have some sense! Women bring pots and pans to the Dail....why don't we also bring our mops and brooms in case the chamber needs a good clean! Protests like this are an insult to all but the handfull of bra-less middleclass women that attend them. Women Against the War - brown eyed shop assistants against the war....where will it end? But we all know how this nonsense starts....with women. No self respecting woman would have anything to do with this charade - who buys this nonsense that we are more opposed (or indeed opposed in a different / better way) to the war than any other right minded individual.
The comment above was obviously not written by a woman!
Women and children bear the brunt of all that is negative in this patriarchal world, in particular WAR.
"Unmasterful in his personal relations with women, the male attains to general masterfulness by the manipulation of money and of everything and everybody controlled by money, in other words, of every-thing and everybody."
Quote from Valerie Solanus on men, power and control.
The Global Women's Strike in Galway will be bringing our pots and pans to our weekly community picket and speak-out against the war outside Mill St Garda Station, tomorrow, Wednesday 9th April. The Global Women's Strike daily picket outside the Houses of Parliament in London is taking up the call by the Strike in Galway to support this action, led by women and highlighting that women and children bear the brunt of war. The Strike in Spain participates in the nightly cacerolazo in Barcelona and has brought news of it to women in Ireland and the UK. And our sisters in the Strike network in Argentina and Venezuela have used their pots and pans in protests for their very survival in the face of the violence of the IMF/World Bank/collapse of the Argentinian state and the failed coup in Venezuela - defeated by those very cacerolazos and many other actions and tactics.
