Iraqi Blood on Irish Hands

Antiwar graffiti carried out over the weekend in Dublin.

When the coalition of the killing launched their attack on Iraq Bertie Ahern's constituency office was daubed with the words "Blood on Your Hands"[1].

Now over two weeks later, war still rages and the bombs still fall on innocent Iraqi people. Our leaders in Fianna Fáil and the Progressive Democrats through the use of Shannon Airport are complicit in this slaughter.

Despite hundreds of thousands marching on the streets of Ireland, they refuse to listen to what we are saying. Rational discussion has failed to change their minds. But just because they're ignoring us doesn't mean we give up and let them have their way. We will keep reminding them of their guilt and make them listen.

On Friday night stencils and paint were used to drive this message home at a number of locations in Dublin including the party headquarters of both Fianna Fáil and the PDs. Dublin GNAW supports such actions, large and small, which foster disrespect with the war-collaborators and the authority they claim to legitimately wield. We call on people to continue this campaign of civil disobedience until Ireland's contribution to the war effort - the refueling of the invasion force at Shannon - is ended.

National Demo at Shannon Warport on Saturday 12th April 2003.

As Eoin Dubsky recently suggested did anybody ever consider the people of East Germany tearing down the Berlin Wall criminals, the press in the "free world" hailed them as heroes, and rightly so.On the other hand peole engaged in non violent direct action here are called criminals involved in criminal damage.

The action this government has taken in allowing the U.S. military to avail of the use of Shannon Airport is clearly against the wishes of the Irish people.Over 100,000 people took to the streets to voice their opposition to the illegal invasion of Iraq and our governments position on the issue of the use of Shannon Airport for U.S. military.Bertie Ahern even had the cheek to say the marchers shared the same views as he did.

The government continued to say they would wait for a second U.N. resolution before they would make a decision on issue of the use of Shannon,it never came but they still allowed the U.s. to use Shannon.

Maybe you did not see the Prime Time programme in which the true human cost of the U.S. bombings of Iraq is being paid,it is a high price indeed.

The price of washing of paint of a door or a wall is a small price to pay for having blood on your hands.

Fianna Fáil is against the war, many of its members marched in the big protest, however Fianna Fáil realises that changing a 50 year old policy would damage Irelands interests. As the party of government its their job to protect Ireland's interests.

Some people in the "anti war movement" might not have any consern for the Jobs in Shannon or else where for that matter, however, Fianna Fáil does care, Fianna Fáil created most of those jobs, at a time when Labour and Fine Gael sold off planes for juke boxes, Fianna Fáil was making the hard choices, the same shit is happening today.

France, Germany and other anti war countries allow refueling... we must protect our interests.

Also I've noticed a marked decline in the number of protesters coming out, at the last count it was less than 20,000 (RTE say 8,000).

20,000 people DO NOT represent 5 million. In fact they just about make up the constituency of one seat in Dail Éireann.

When I see 500,000 VOTERS march down O'Connell street demanding US planes out of Shannon I'll support your cause.

Why 500,000 thats how many people voted for Fianna Fáil in the last election.

Bertie Ahern has a massive mandate to Govern - the people who attacked Fianna Fáil's offices over the weekend have none.

Im glad you mentioned the concept of a mandate, from whom did Ahern recieve the mandate to provide material support for an ILLEGAL war, and thereby contribute to the erosion of the UN and international law ?. I repeat...An ILLEGAL war!, did you vote him in to assist in an imperialistic land grab? He has no mandate from the people for assisting criminal activity.

Today's Irish Times (April 7th) quotes SWP and IAWM leader Richard Boyd Barrett as saying that painting Celia Larkin's beauty shop was "inappropriate". Celia is Bertie's partner and a Fianna Fail supporter/activist who turns up at their fundraisers.

Even the Sinn Fein gang who are going to meet Bush and Blair refused to say anything negative about the painters (Sunday Independent, April 6th).

But maybe RBB want's to appear no more threatening than the Greens (afterall, he will be contesting next year's local elections in Dun Laoghaire-Rathdown.

Did he get agreement from the IAWM committee before making his comment (not as an individual but as leader of the IAWM)?

Weird to see the Red Hand being used in such a progressive context- we couldn't use that up here in the North for obvious reasons...

I am moved to say that there must be more of this throughout the rational world. I am in the USA and every day that this war goes on the less stable the world grows. This is an amoral war. I am a former member of the US military and would have gone if I had been ordered... I guess. I would like to believe that I would have reasoned on the side of honour and gone to prison instead.

Painting the doors of those who are blinded by the light of deception is honorable not criminal.
