Photograph exhibition "Lost Rights" from Guatemala
Latin American music
Talks / workshops every hour on the hour as follows:
1:10 pm: "Lost Rights" by Eoin O'Donnell and Jacqueline Healy, who worked
as "protective accompaniers" in Guatemala in a community which is sending
witnesses to the genocide trials of former dictators Rios Montt and Lucas
Garcia. Showing of new Trocaire video "We Must Speak Out"
2 pm: "Cuba Today in a Globalised Latin America" by Jose Alberto Prieto
Sanchez, International Relations analyst from Cuba who has a particular
interest in US foreign policy towards Latin America, and in the Free Trade
Area of the Americas (FTAA) as well as Colombia, Venezuela, Mexico and
Brazil
3 pm: "Fyffes and workers' rights" by Oisin Coughlan, who worked with
banana labourers in Belize. Fyffes, an Irish based multinational
corporation, buys all of the bananas exported from Belize.
4 pm: "Indigenous communities in southern Mexico - resistance to corporate
globalisation" by Carlos Beas Torres of the indigenous organisation
UCIZONI, which represents 84 communities in the Isthmus of Tehuantepec,
Oaxaca, Mexico
Places on the workshops will be allotted on a first come first served basis
on the day.
Numbers at each workshop will be limited to twenty.
For respect to the speakers, workshops will be closed once they have begun
ie latecomers will not be admitted.
