This urgent information which has been hidden from the Irish people was revealed by Karen Kenny an International Law lawyer on rte's questions and answers the day before yesterday.

ms Kenny pointed out that under international law the Fianna Fail government has made Ireland a legitimate target.
She also pointed out that we have made ourselves a party to this conflict and that we are liable to pay war reparations to the Iraqis.

Dail urged to condemn Iraqi war

The Irish government was today facing calls to condemn the invasion of Iraq amid claims it was secretly supporting the action.

A group of independent members of the Dublin parliament was also demanding an end to US troop movements through Shannon Airport in Co Clare.

They were tabling the motion in the hope it would be supported by opposition parties - many of whom have voiced their anger at the war.

Outlining their demands for an urgent debate, the TDs said last Saturday`s protest through the streets of Dublin showed opposition to the war was as strong as ever.

Irish Socialist Party worker Joe Higgins said last weekend`s opinion poll in the Irish Sunday Independent proved anti-war fatigue was not setting in.

``I think people are more and more appalled as they see the plight of the Iraqi people,`` he said.

Some three-quarters of Irish adults responding to the survey said they disapproved of the way US President George Bush handled the Iraq crisis.

And only a third said they were happy with the way their own leader Bertie Ahern had performed on the matter.

Independent TD Finian McGrath criticised the ``smug section`` of Irish society which refused to speak out against war and accused the Irish government of secretly supporting it.

``Irish people have got to wake up to the reality of what`s going to happen over the next couple of weeks,`` he added.

The politicians said that, by allowing US military aircraft to refuel at Shannon, Ireland was aiding and abetting the war.

At the outset of the war Irish politicians voted to continue to provide the facility despite it being the subject of widespread protest.

Those opposed claim the Republic is breaching its tradition of military neutrality.

Last night in the Dail, Irish Prime Minister Bertie Ahern quashed media speculation that Co Dublin`s Baldonnel Airport was also being used for US military stopovers.

He said it had not been used by the military since last summer

Did the goverment not already say that they would pay war reparations to the people of Iraq?

author by Matthewpublication date Wed Apr 02, 2003 14:59author address author phone Report this post to the editors

The Irish government has most certainly not already agreed to pay reparations. Such a statement would be an admission of an illegal act on Ireland's part against Iraq. That is what Ireland is engaged in, but the government won't admit it.

Our government have simply made noises about "helping the people of Iraq" in terms of rebuilding Iraq and giving humanitarian aid.
Slightly hypocritical considering we are:

A. helping to attack Iraq in the first place
B. reducing the financial liability of the (other) aggressors, US, UK and Australia.

I can only hope that Ireland gets taken to the International Court of Justice and Bertie goes to the Internation Criminal Court. Maybe then the people of this country will learn not to elect duplicitous lying spoofers who take their electors for fools.

It has been said in some quarters ( civil service ) that the shower in Leinster House would only love to be able to send troops out to Iraq and thereby compound complicity in this illegal war. D'ont they know that the us government shits on everyone especially their friends. According to an article in yesterdays Irish Times the amount of money for the the International Fund for Ireland has been upped from 8 million to around 20 million. Is this the payment for the continued use of Shannon?

Just as soon as the structural funding from europe dries up they bend us over to get fucked by Uncle Sam. This countries opportunities to stand up on its own, develop its own indiginous (and sustainable) industries, and develop some real form of 'independence' has been squandered by these pimps. Traitorous bastards are only interested in prostituting this countries natural and human resources for their own gain. Bastards.
