Thursday, 27th of March, 2003
Current world events are of great concern to many of our students, both Irish and International. It is difficult to avoid talk and discussion of the war in Iraq at the moment. Newspapers, radio and TV focus on little else. While it is understandable that the war may be at the forefront of people's minds, it is important during these difficult times for everyone to exercise tact and diplomacy in discussing the issues involved, especially in culturally mixed groups. When opinions are divided we need to see the differences objectively and to avoid making judgements.
------------Glad to see that one of our fine universities is calling on students to remain objective in the face of an illegal and horrible war. Imagine going to university and being encouraged not to make judgement on the issue of just war. Seriously, i think they should include a list of objective non-judgements for students to choos e from on their syllabus. Hope this has nothing to do with the dollars on which irish unis have become so fond of.
just saw TOP oil truck delivering a load to buildings in NUIG. Good place to start a boycott methinks..
