Diversity kitsch is all around us. But as the grim fact forcefully confronts us that some immigrants hate their hosts so much they want to murder and rape them, David McGrogan senses that it is at last falling from favour.

General strike in Spain against war

category national | miscellaneous | news report author Tuesday April 01, 2003 14:07author by Andrew Report this post to the editors

The CGT (an anarcho-syndicalist union in Spain with around 45,000 members) has called a general strike against the war for April 10th. It's calling on other unions to join the strike. Because unionisation levels are very low in Spain it is quite normal for several times the number of unions members to actually participate in such strikes.

In its national plenary today, 28th March, the ConfederaciŰn
General del Trabajo (CGT) decided to call a 24-HOUR GENERAL
STRIKE on the 10th April next to protest the present
government's policies in favour of the war and against the
socio-economic consequences which this participation brings.

The CGT has decided to call this 24-hour strike as a result of
the opposition of the many social and workers' collectives and
platforms, and in order to give an adequate reply to the
government's policies which is so damaging for the whole working
class.

The CGT calls on all union organizations and social movements
who are against the war to support this 24-hour strike.

The CGT will call a meeting next week of all unions,
collectives, associations and organizations which are opposed to
the war in order that we may work together and, if possible,
produce a single manifesto. Those wishing to join the call for
the strike or request further information can do so by
contacting [email protected]

is the "consultaguerra"

an anarko-inspired idea from the Barcelona section of "Aturem la guerre!"
this opened five days ago and runs till mid April.

it is an opportunity for all citizens to register their opinion on the platform.

all citizens are invited to "vote" on the agreed campaign. several options
1. stop this war
2. stop war
3. stop war machine
4. force resignation of Aznar

the consulation is available through the "pangea.org" online.
it is a means to prevent the manipulation of pacifism by the political parties.

[I have not had time to tell ye all about what is happening here but i will try and make some over the next few days].

In case this catches on and they have to talk the workers out of this here. Of course Des Geraghty would stop being nice to them in that case.

they left us our ---

The Director of TVE the Spanish equivalent of RTE which is the Irish equivalent of the BBC which properly has no equivalent in the USA
was fired for allowing the PP government claim that the General Strike was not a General Strike.

Everyone stopped working. Everyone stopped.
we saw (a young doctor of philsophy in history of Spain in the 30s & I) all the shops close, even those without "union" membership. That day even the Irish bars closed their smokey doors, only a handful remained open, with the non taxed, "illegal" immigrants bonded labour within.
We saw with our own eyes, and then the TV and the PP told us it had not happened.

The first Spanish troops have returned home, from Iraq, to their wives, girlfriends, kids, boyfriends, and their "Victory sign" was held high.
President in functions Aznar blocked their return for several hours till President elect Zapatero signed the order.
Thus Aznar enters history with his principles and integrity intact, he stuck by his line till the end.

It Was A General Strike.

now who are the criminals who smoke in blatent disregard of the Law?
