hundreds of thousands march on airbases of Spain

category national | miscellaneous | news report author Monday March 31, 2003 15:03author by ipsiphi - espai alliberat contre le guerreauthor address barcelona Report this post to the editors

yesterday.

without fuss and without months of preparation and centralised planning and leadership, hundreds of thousands paid visits to their local USAF airbases.

in the words of the spokesperson for IU (the marxist grouping itself a part of a four party electoral alliance in Spain)
"we must reclaim our bases from the US airforce the war machine would not have faciliatated the invasion of Iraq had the peoples of Europe not facilitated the US war machine".
great day was had by all.
lots of socialists being loud and happy.

The UK group "war resisters" is of course calling for a global day of action on this theme April 4-5 so if you missed the first action you still have time to pick up on the trend.

buenas dias (?) ipsiphi,

was there any message of further action to be taken by these thousands at these marches?... ----
the marchers need something to do other than march .... ALL of us.....

What is the most effective thing that the MASSES can do?

Something that 150,000 might do, something they can be told to do before they leave the march?

Obviously , as of now at least, 150,000 are not going to risk imprisonment...... not risk going to jail.

Something simple but effective when tens of thousands do it .........

Everyone can individually, or within their own groups, continue to do any other action they please.

The tens of thousands are in great need of another STEP/ACTION........
WHAT?

Anything simple? (it would have to be something simple/easy for the tens of thousands to do it..)

I think this is very important, because it has to be admitted that the marches only go so far, and there is a deflation (for me at least) at the end of one.

The numbers might start to decline at the marches, and the only thing the media really is interested in is 'how many were there?'

What else will 150,000 people do other than march?
Write a letter? To who?

Boycott .... who? Someone big, widespread....
Send an email, make a phone call..... ??

Any thoughts?
