RTE lies to Irish people

category national | miscellaneous | news report author Sunday March 30, 2003 10:21author by James McKennaauthor email jimmymac61 at hotmail dot com Report this post to the editors

More propaganda from the Montrose Mice

last night on it's 9.20pm news RTE stated an Iaqi missile had hit a shopping centre in Kuwait City early on Saturday. This is a lie and they know it to be a lie. It was a US cruise missile
39107_1.JPG

Reports from US sources claiming the market bombings in Baghdad was not down to them was rightly greeted with skeptacism by the RTE reporter in Baghdad who pointed out from the evidence that they were indeed US missiles.

We did not however have a statement from the Charlie Bird in Kuwait City about the missle that hit where he is stationed. Why? Would our Good Bird not squak what (Fr) Bob Collins and John M. O'Sullivan wanted him to?

Despite the fact that RTE insist on putting out the US lie the writing is on the wall, or rather on the missile casing.

The New York Times and CBS both covered the story fairly and gave eyewitness accounts from experts like this one....

"It was an American cruise missile, we know from the markings and writing on it," an unidentified Kuwaiti police colonel told the Times. "It doesn't go up, it comes in low from the sea, and that's why there was no alert."

In case they were too busy in RTE editing yesterdays protest to make it look like it was a bunch of flag-burners I sent them this information and they still chose to broadcast black propaganda late yesterday.

I intend to take this up with the Broadcasting Comission , the Ombudsman, my local TD and anyone else who will stamp out the ability of these chancers to lie to the Irish people.

Does anyone know anything about the newsroom in RTE?

(22:21) A new poll shows that a majority of voters believe it is in Ireland's economic interest to support the United States in its war against Iraq.

But despite that, the IMS poll in tomorrow's Sunday Independent shows that a small majority oppose the continued use of Shannon by the US military.

54% believe it is in Ireland's national interest to support the United States, with 31% opposed and 15% with no opinion.

62% disapprove of the United States attack, compared to 29% who approve and 8% with no opinion.

49 per cent are against military use of Shannon airport, with 43% in favour and 8% don't knows.

Satisfaction rating

In regard to government satisfaction, 60% are dissatisfied with its performance and 33% are satisfied.

Bertie Ahern now has the fourth highest satisfaction rating of the party leaders, behind Pat Rabbitte, Gerry Adams and Mary Harney, but ahead of Trevor Sargent and Enda Kenny, who still has the lowest rating.

Excluding the 23% who were undecided, Fianna Fáil's support is 40%, down 4 on the last poll in October; Fine Gael is 22%, up 3; Labour 13%, up 2; PDs are unchanged at 3%; the Greens at 5% are down 2; Sinn Féin is down 1 at 9%; and Independents and others are up 3 at 8%

You didn't read the article you quote from very carefully, did you? It didn't say the missile was American, it says it might have been either American or Iraqi. In fact, the title of the article tells you this: "Origin Of Kuwait Missile Still In Question".

So, how exactly did you get from 'Might have been' to 'Was'?

The previous posting is obviously the usual, pathetic Nazi tripe: Hello JM, is that you?

By the way, I have just been watching CNN, where an Iraqi spokesman announced that the missile that hit Kuwait yesterday was one of theirs.

A good piece of evidence as to the origins of one of the marketplace bombs, that killed 55 civilians, try todays Sunday Tribune piecee by R Fisk.
If it was Iraqi, why did the missle have fragments numbered 30003-704ASB7492 (Fisk does say it may be ASH- before any nit picking defenders of the Imperialist forces steps in). Another fragment is marked MFR 96214 09

Not 100% but a very good indication that these were American bombs.

On the News at One today Charlie the Bird was dragged out of his bunker to report a story from last fridaynight/Saturday morning ???

Yes, he was selling out to declare "an Iraqi Silkworm missile " had hit Kuwait.

Only one thing Charlie: the silkworm missile has a maximum range of 50 miles, how far away is the Iraqi border ? Yeah, the Iraqi border past all those Patriot missile sites. The Iraqi border with all those legions of US and UK troops on it. How did they miss a Silkworm launcher or launch. Noisy blighters the Silkworms.Even travelling at Mach .8 from Iraq, it should have been easy to spot and certainly hear ?

Are you sure now it wasn't a US Tomohawk Cruise coming in from a launcher in the gulf and flying over Kuwait, Charlie . Like the one that fell into a Turkish field yesterday as it flew over Turkey?

Here's a map of Kuwait for anyone who thinks RTE is telling the truth. Have a look Charlie and drop me a line and put an "X" on the spot you think they fired it from

IT IS NOT POSSIBLE TO FIRE A SILKWORM MISSILE FROM IRAQ INTO KUWAIT CITY. IT IS NOT WITHIN RANGE

RTE has been pumping out CNN in the mornings and RTE Radio 1 has also been peddling the BBC World Service at night time. If I wanted such empirical shite I'd tune it to it. Ireland remains the petty colony.

your only 'proof' in these situations is eye-witness accounts or to be on the ground your-self. Whether you like it or not propaganda is news. If you like it you call it fact if you dont you call it propaganda.

I will stand up in rte 's defence because we have digital and besides internet trawls (indimedia sites and weblogs) I watch news on RTE, CNN, BBC, ITV, FOX, EURO news, CCTV(chinese news in english), AL Jazeera, Abu Dabai TV, SKY news among others and RTE remains the most tolerable. They all rely on the same sources (to a degree) and it is how they filter the info they are given that constitutes their news. They are in a position where they have to produce regular news with controlled or bad info.

Rather than bitching about one news source (apart from FOX CNN and Sky which are sooo bad) gather your info from many sources and make an intellegent assumption as to what real and what subltly treated to appear real.

The old saying that the first victim of war is the truth still stands but why trust one source over another.....

So it's ok for RTE to blast out US propaganda, is that your point. I don't think so. We own them and they have a DUTY to us not "US" to tell the truth.

Yeah sure, we only have the eyewitness account of a police colonel on the spot. A police man from a very pro-US regime. A policeman who had read the markings on the casing! Printed in the NY Times and CBS!

The rest is common sense. RTE's latest lie (from Washington or Doha) is that it was a Silkworm missile but this is laughably rediculous as it would have had to travel twice it's max range to hit Kuwait city.

Who else has cruise missiles in the Gulf right now except the US?...... Nobody.

Maybe it was Ghadaffi , or Noriega, or the Taliban or Bin Laden or the Ayatholla or hugo Chavez, who knows with the US Total Information Awareness policy in full effect in Montrose, it could even have been the Colombia three.

The fact remains OUR NATIONAL BROADCASTER - RTE -IS LYING TO US

Well I remember reading a few years ago - I think it was one of those 30-year state paper releases - that during the Vietnam War, RTE (and maybe it was also some of the Irish newspapers) was planning to send out some Irish journalists so that we could get some "Irish" coverage of events out there. I think it would have been shortly after RTE (television) had come into operation and some people naively thought now that we have a national television station we should send some people out to bring news from distant parts ....
The US was not too happy about this, exerted its political muscle and the idea was axed.

I can't recall exact details of the affair but it is clear that the Irish political establishment has always been .... emmmm ... how shall I say this politely ..... rather "deferential" to the wishes of the US military-industrial complex .....

So while it is surely a great disgrace that RTE is obsequiously parroting US propaganda, quite frankly it comes as no surprise to me ...

What would be interesting to know is how much political pressure is being applied to RTE and how much is due to "self-censorship".

RTE lied to the people during Nice 1, Nice 2, the Nato bombings in Kosovo and the war in Afganistan. So why are you guys so suprised that they are lying to us again? Do youse suffer from anmesia or something?
