news report
Saturday March 29, 2003 20:27 by Al O'Halloran
On Radio Free Eireann, NYC, today, Bernadette Sands-McKevitt, sister of Bobby Sands, MP, appealed to civil libertarians to protest the mistreatment of her husband, Michael McKevitt, who is now in his third year on remand, charged with being the leader of the Real IRA. McKevitt is held in a cell with no sanitary facilities. The sole evidence against him comes from MI5 and FBI agent, Rupert, and the prosecution is withholding documents from the defense. McKevitt who has been seriously ill with pneumonia, goes on trial(non-jury) in June. The Ahern regime has collaborated fully with the Anglo-American intelligence services in this attempt to railroad McKevitt.

Jump To Comment: 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8WE ALL KNOW WHAT MCKEVITT IS. I'M GLAD THAT HE HAS NO SANITARY FACILITIES. HE HAS SPENT LONG ENOUGH PISSING ON EVERYONE ELSE. HE IS SCUM.
Framing McKevitt and turning Shannon into a warport are parts of the same policy: subordinating Ireland, North and South, to Anglo-American imperialism. By resisting one you resist the other. So lets hear some of the anti-war movement come to the defense of McKevitt. An attack on the civil liberties of anyone is an attack on everyone's civil liberties. Or are Irish civil libertarians only concerned with human rights violations thousands of miles away? First they came for the republicans....
Ahern and Harney are the political leaders of the comprador/gombeen class. Their economic and political policy is to integrate Ireland, North and South, fully into Anglo-American imperialism.
i don't agree with what he has done but everyone has rights
Mr. McKevitt has not been convicted of anything. These are mere allegations against him. The sole 'evidence' against him comes from a highly-paid MI5 and FBI informer. And while McKevitt is abused in jail, Sinn Fein invites the American ambassador to their Ard Fheis. By doing so they give legitimacy to the massacre of Iraqis.
I believe it is up to people of this island to decommision all weapons of war. us planes and ra weapons.
Three years on remand? I thought everyone was entitled to have their case dealt with within a reasonable time-frame?
Everyone has, or should have, the right to a fair trial without being subjected to the kind of prejudice displayed above.
Interesting name that, "holy mugger". We have had more than our fair share of holy muggers (and holy buggers) in this country.
As for your comment that he should "Rot in hell"? - That sort of comment is the kind of thing I would expect to hear from the likes of George Bush and the religious loopers who associate with him.
He won't be left to rot in hell there.
No Sir, we've got a much better way of dealing with lawbreakers. We call it the Death Penalty.
