Activists in court Friday for hanging banner on North Strand railway bridge

On the 19th of March 2003, as American and English troops prepared an offensive on Iraq, a banner was put up across a railway bridge on the North Strand Road. The 40 foot banner in white on black reads "NO U.S. TERROR." At either end there is a map of Ireland made from the American flag. This banner is still up.

The North Strand Peace Group was formed in reaction to the alarming and illegal steps being taken by George
Bush and the American government to disobey
international law, and declare a war on Iraq further
decimating the country.

The North Strand Peace Group believes that this is an
unjust war, and that by allowing U.S. war planes to
refuel in Shannon and by protecting them from the
Irish people with the Irish army, we, a nation which
has always upheld its neutrality is participating in
an illegal war. Our own soldiers have participated in
U.N peace keeping forces and ironically now we are
supporting a war which completely disregards the
ideals of the United Nations. We would like to remind
people across the world that innocent people are dying
on all sides because of this unjust war.

Two members of the North Strand Peace Group have been arrested in connection with the banner on the bridge.
They will be appearing in court next Friday the 28th
of March and are represented by Sean T. O'Reilly
Solicitors. (Details below) They are facing charges
of trespassing on the railway. We understand and
completely support their aims. At a time when all
media images from Iraq are highly censored, and the
voices of dissent from within and outside the U.S. are
also censored, we would like to express our support
for the freedom of speech, and expression of contrary
views.

This war is not in our name.

It can't find the time to inspect the planes passing through Shannon (and has to rely on Brendan O'Connor to sniff out the coke'n'crisps), can't find the resources to prosecute at a reasonable pace any of the scumbags involved in (how many is it now?) tribunals. But it can find the time to prosecute a couple of people for hanging out an anti-war message.

Well done Gardai, yer a credit to the nation. Now maybe you could send one of your crack investigative teams around to war-criminal Bertie "On My Knees Praying and Sucking" Ahern?
