US treatment of prisoners - does this photo jog your memory

category national | miscellaneous | news report author Monday March 24, 2003 12:01author by Paul O'Donnell Report this post to the editors

It should...

This is one of a number of photos showing hooded and shackled Afghani prisoners on board a US military plane on the way to Guantanamo Bay Naval Base / Concentration Camp in that part of Cuba the US should really hand back to the Cuban people.
37317_1.JPG

This photo was supposedly taken without the permission of the US military and released to media. CBS, amongst others, displayed it on primetime news.

It is clear that neither the United States nor Iraqi military give a damn about the Geneva Convention.

The photo's do not show the faces of the prisioners, therefore they do not contravene the Geneva Convention.

is a federation of over 50 states.
We in the 5th international have long planned yes planned, the seperaion of one of those states.
a clue....
it is the one where the majority speak Spanish.
it is the one with the majority of arrests for anti-War demonstrations.
last clue..
it is where Reagan called for the internment of ecologists pacifists socialists and anarchists in the 60s sharing a platform with Bush senior.

and WE in the 5th have so far been right.

In February 1998, Albright said (in defense of using cruise missles against Iraq), "If we have to use force, it is because we are America. We are the indispensible nation. We stand tall. We see farther into the future."

That is why the US is not bound by the Geneva Convention whereas the Iraqis are ......

The US denied that these Taliban prisoners were actually Prisoners of War but anyone looking at the text of the Geneva Convention can see that they perfectly fit into that category.

The US didn't deny that this treatment was inhumane, they merely tried to justify it by saying the Geneva Convention didn't apply because they were not Prisoners of War.

Not war crimes.

The differences are that the identity of these prisioners is not shown, they are not being interrogated in front of TV cameras and their comrades were not executed. The Iragi regime did all this and have been condemned by the International Red Cross, who rightly pointed out that the treatment of these American POW's was not in accordance with the Geneva Convention.

The US oligarchs like Rumsfeld are so damn stupid .... the probably think that there are people (outside the USA) who are so naive that they can't see through their double standards ....

Nice photo .....
