400 people marched in Limerick today starting at 2pm from Penneys, up O'Connell St, down Henry St. to a rally at Arthurs Quay Park before returning to O'Connell St. where a twenty minute sit down protest took place. The rally in the park was addressed by Joe Sheehan & Katherine Harford from organisers MAMA, Cllr. John Gilligan(IND), Ron Byrne(Socialist Party), Jan O'Sullivan T.D. (Labour), Pauric Malone(Sinn Féin), Mark Deane (Youth against War), Tim Hourigan(Shannon Peace Camp) and Tracey Ryan (Gluaiseacht). Besides the usual 1... 2... 3... 4...
"War Criminals are in the Dail...
They're called PDs and Fianna Fail"
"This Government has got to go...
regime change begins at home"
lots of locals got to see and join in.
sit down looked good.
Noticed cops didn't look too interested in breaking it up when there was over 100 people, moms and kids - and probably local voters blocking O'Connell Street.
A lot of the locals looked confused.
You'll have to do a few more of these before they cotton on to the idea.
Well Done to all involved in Limerick protest especially Conor, Tim, Lawrence, Tracey, Katherine, Jenny, Paddy, Manus....apologies if any gaps left...too many to name..God Bless your committment.
In peaceful love and solidarity,
Damien
Thanks to all involved. A great turn out for Limerick.
Good stuff out of everyone. I´d be there in my millions if I could. Over here, Peru, a country against the war, the papers are telling it like it is. A campaign of terror by the big ol bastards. I assume the same can´t be said of the press coverage at home in Ireland.
