The Jordanians yesterday issued 5000 refugee passes to the Sudanese labourers and homehelp cleaners who had been withdrawn in a convey of coaches from Bagdad.
Amnesty and Intermon/Oxfam expect over two million refugees to follow.
To survive the journey accross the desert you must drink at least four litres of water every day. Most refugees do not carry this amount of water.
To escape through the south of Iraq the water minimum intake is ten litres a day. It is thought that British engineers will build a water pipeline to prevent the Allies from dehydrating in the south.
Human bodies dessicate in the sun and are eaten by carrion birds and other animals within a short period. In less than a week only the teeth and larger bones will present any evidence that Humans ever lived.
