CORK Anti-War Activities Today & This Week

category national | miscellaneous | news report author Thursday March 20, 2003 15:32author by Anonymous Report this post to the editors

For futher info contact Fintan Lane on 087 1258325. Vigil & Concert this evening. March on Saturday

ANTI-WAR MARCH IN CORK THIS COMING SATURDAY

The Cork Anti-War Campaign will be holding a march through Cork city centre this Saturday to protest at the war on Iraq and, more particularly, at the use of Shannon airport by American warplanes. It is extremely important that we mobilise for this demonstration in order to send a clear message to Fianna Fail and the PDs that the majority of Irish people oppose the integration of an Irish civilian airport into the U.S. war machine. The Irish state should not be complicit in mass slaughter.

The demonstration, one of many across the country, will assemble at Daunt Square at 1pm. Bring homemade placards and other items symbolising your opposition to what is happening at Shannon airport.

If you live outside the city, please consider organising a bus from your area – we need as many people as possible to attend on the day! For details and information, phone Fintan Lane at 087 1258325.

PEACE CONCERT ORGANISED BY CAWC

A peace concert organised by the Cork Anti-War Campaign will be held in City Limits, Coburg Street, from 8pm till late, on this coming Thursday evening.

All proceeds will go to UNICEF Ireland’s fund for medicine for Iraqi children. Karan Casey and Scullion will be among the acts performing.

Tickets are E15 waged/E12 unwaged. Phone Fintan Lane at 087 1258325 for details.

VIGIL ON DAUNT SQUARE AT 6PM ON DAY X

CAWC will be holding a vigil on Daunt Square at 6pm on the evening that the war starts. We would encourage everybody to attend.

Do we all sit around on Friday?

Or do we go and picket the homes of our Government ministers and TDs as they relax at home after their hectic St Paddys day travels abroad.

Joe Walsh , Knight of the Spanish Grand Cross, who voted to assist in the illegal murder of Iraqi civilians and an illegal regime change. Should we ask him , his wife Marie Donegan, their three sons and two daughters to leave the country inside 48 hrs? We certainly need a regime change and this seems to be the New World Order Way that Joe himself advocates. What's good for the goose is good for the curly gander!
