5.30 - 7pm DROP IN CENTRE FOR MIGRANT WORKERS DROP IN CENTRE FOR MIGRANT WORKERS This Friday, international day against racism, SIPTU will be running a drop in centre, in the Liberty Hall Centre for migrant workers who may wish to find out about services which the union can provide. In the growing multi-cultural climate in Ireland today it is very important for migrant workers to know their rights. All are welcome whether union members or not. There will be a number of advisors and interpreters available between 5.30 and 7pm. If you speak English and another language, and would like to volenteer to interpret for the event, please contact Nora on 087 641 2887. FILM: RACE TO THE BOTTOM The drop in centre will be followed by a film "race to the bottom" from 7 - 8pm. A recent "Esperanza Productions" documentary on the textile industry in Ireland and Bangladesh. Focusing on Dhaka, the capital of Bangladesh, and Derry in northern Ireland, this documentary charts how the garment industry has virtually left the developed world and is constantly on the move to the poorer countries of the developing world. The ongoing search for workers who will work longer hours for less, and in more dangerous conditions, is a key feature of globalisation. Filmed in dramatically diverse locations, from the walls of Derry to the sweat shops and export factories in Bangladesh, this documentary raises many crucial questions regarding international trade-union solidarity, and respect for international labour standards. CHE CLUB: KING SATIVA The international music club, sponsored by SIPTU, City Bridges and Metro Eireann, has been a regular event at the Centre over the last few months. To celebrate international day against racism King Sativa and others will be playing from 8pm - midnight. All staff and interpreters who volenteer their services will be given free admission to the film and the Che Club, and will recieve a complimentary drink at the bar.
