The US has withdrawn it's UN draft resolution. Bush says "the diplomatic window has closed".

Powell is due to speak in 15 minutes and Bush to address the US later tonight. Looks like a Paddys Day War after all :(

And where's ahern's decision on the use of Shannon?

France is saying that the majority of the UN Security Council was against this new resolution. No wonder the US and UK pulled it. Looks like its the end of road for the UN.

Powell has said that they didn't table the resolution because (a) they couldn't get the votes and (b) the resolution had the March 17 date built into it anyway.
The UK cabinet is now in emergency session. The UNSC had a closed door meeting at 1500. And the Irish government is away on holidays.

From the Irish Times :
Workers at CIE are set to down tools for ten minutes at noon on the day of an attack being launched on Iraq.

"We...do not support a war waged on the innocent people of Iraq. These people are not our enemies and a war on them is not a just war," a joint statement signed by trade union officials from SIPTU, ATGWU and ILDA said.

They said their action will be a "humanitarian gesture of reflection for all those who will lose their lives" during the course of the war.

The unions said they also hope that many Irish will do the same, as "a gesture of this nature can send a powerful message to our national leaders that we do not support this impending slaughter".

That would be tomorrow then?

Do not go to work / school / university tomorrow.

Boycott US products whenever possible.

Flood UK gov inboxes with anti-war mail.

Flood US gov inboxes with large files. Preferably .zip.

Flood US companies with 2MB zips.

Turn off any anti-virus software running on your work PC.

Allow all anti-war viruses to spread.

.. a 10-minute work stoppage?

Well, that is the ultimate definition of Token Opposition. It will probably actually encourage Ahern and cohorts firstly to fits of mirth and then further attacks on the rule of law, both Irish and International.

An open-ended General Strike to depose this criminal government would be more fitting under the present circumstances. Let them come back
from their holidays to an uncosy prison cell.

It now behooves all citizens to become actively involved in wresting control of their own country back from the Lickspittle Imperialist Bootboys in occupation of elected office.

Civil-disobedience, direct-action, blockade, strike, boycott, sabotage the US/Irish/British WarMachine.

I offer my most sincere wish that the forces of Imperialism will suffer at least 10 losses for each Iraqi one in the slaughter now commencing.

the war mongers are now relying on resolution 1441 as legal cover for the war. Watch Ahern do the same thing. So much for the 'imperative' of a new resolution.
