category national | miscellaneous | news report author Sunday March 16, 2003 20:26author by nolympics Report this post to the editors

A 23 year old American peace activist was killed by an Israeli Army bulldozer in Gaza. The Bulldozers used for house demolitions by the Israelis are specially made by caterpillar in the USA.

American woman peace activist killed by IDF bulldozer in Gaza

By Arnon Regular, Haaretz Correspondent, and Agencies

An American woman peace protester was killed Sunday by an IDF bulldozer,
which ran her over during the demolition of a house at the Rafah refugee camp
in the southern Gaza Strip.

Another activist was wounded in the incident.

Rachel Corey, 23, from Olympia, Washington, was killed when she ran in
front of the bulldozer to try to prevent it from destroying a house, doctors
in Gaza said.

"Corey was killed in the al-Salam neighbourhood when an
Israeli bulldozer covered her with sand as she stood in front of a
bulldozer," said Dr Ali Musa, a doctor from the al-Najar hospital in the
southern Gaza Strip.

He said she died from skull and chest fractures.

The IDF said it was checking the report.

Greg Schnabel, 28, from Chicago, said the protesters were in the house
of Dr. Samir Masri.

"Rachel was alone in front of the house as we were trying to get them
to stop," he said. "She waved for bulldozer to stop and waved. She fell down
and the bulldozer kept going. We yelled 'stop, stop,' and the bulldozer
didn't stop at all. It had completely run over her and then it reversed and
ran back over her."

Since the start of the Intifada, groups of international protesters
have gathered in several locations in territories, setting themselves up as
"human shields" to try to stop IDF operations.

Corey was the first member of the groups, called "International
Solidarity Movement," to be killed in the conflict. Schnabel said Corey was a
student at Evergreen College and was to graduate this year.

He said there were eight protesters at the site, four from the United
States and four from Great Britain. "We stay with families whose house is to
be demolished," he told the Associated Press by telephone from Rafah after
the incident.

Mr. Bush should act promptly to protect his own people from the Israeli bulldozers because they will be after him very soon.

Terrible. It might remove the blinkers from the bureaucrats in Washington so they see that Isreal is as much to blame for stirring up trouble as the Palestinians.
Let's hope she hasn't died in vain, although it's all too likely that she has.

I wonder how long this one will last ....

The death of a brave and caring young women is a tragedy for her family and friends. Its effect on the current administration is likely to be nil, the interests of U.S. imperialism in the region lie with extending co-operation with the Zionist racists, not been critical of them. The effect on Sharon will certainly be non existent, Ariel and his predecessors have been committing war crimes for decades, the life of one young American will not cause him to lose any sleep. The only positive aspect (if there is any) is that it will emphasise to the Palestinian people that not all Americans are supporters of the Zionists and their policies of ethnic cleansing and territorial expansion.

The top posting is a gross distortion:

Here's what AP really reported:

'Other protesters who were with Corrie in Gaza on Sunday said she was wearing a bright colored jacket when the bulldozer hit her.

``Rachel was alone in front of the house as we were trying to get them to stop,'' said Greg Schnabel, 28, of Chicago. ``She waved for the bulldozer to stop and waved. She fell down and the bulldozer kept going. We yelled, 'Stop, stop,' and the bulldozer didn't stop at all.''

Israeli military spokesman Capt. Jacob Dallal said her death was an accident. '

Here's what Reuters reported:

'Twenty-three-year-old Rachel Corey was, according to a witness, lying on the ground in front of an Israeli army bulldozer demolishing a house in the southern Gaza city of Rafah when she was killed.

"The American girl was lying in front of the bulldozer when the bulldozer took sand and put it over her," Ali al-Shaar, a witness to the incident, told Reuters.

The Israeli army called the incident a "regrettable accident," but said Corey and other protesters had been acting irresponsibly by "intentionally placing themselves in a combat zone." The army said it was investigating the incident.

A military official said there was limited visibility, especially on the ground immediately in front of the vehicle, from the windows of the armored bulldozers used by the army.'

I would say it is premature, if not biased, to claim that this was done deliberately.

Anti-Israel hysteria isn't a particularly good thing.

Those photos are not conclusive evidence of anything, as they do not show the moment of the impact itself. In fact, if anything they are suspect because of that. They are clearly part of a sequence: are there missing photos that have not been produced? If not, why not?

Using your own very special brand of logic Avi, it could easily by claimed by a holocaust revionist that photo's of Jewish people lining up outside gas chambers did not prove that they were actually gassed.

occasionally I go a "tad weird", I link to conspiracy sites and mutter about reptilian aliens on Griffith Avenue, on other occasions I nurse a grudge against nasty Gardaí types for something really not so important many years ago, generally I indulge in egotism and flavour comments with phlegm and sillyness, but never at least I hope never have I reduced myself to the 'paranoid' raving stage.

Israeli army bulldozer kills American 'human shield'
by Eoin M Mon, Mar 17 2003, 4:09pm
[email protected]
An Israeli army bulldozer ran over and killed an American female peace protester who was trying to stop troops destroying a Palestinian house in a Gaza refugee camp. Rachel Corrie, aged 23 from Washington state, died instantly of a fractured skull, and chest and abdominal injuries yesterday, according to the administrator of the hospital in Rafah, Dr Ali Moussa. The killing was the first of a foreign "human shield" in 29 months of fighting. Nicholas Durie, aged 19, from Dundee, was one of four British and four American campaigners who tried to block two bulldozers destroying homes and farming infrastructure near an olive grove. "We were trying to frustrate their efforts by getting in front of the bulldozers," he told The Independent by telephone from the hospital. "One of the drivers saw Rachel and drove towards her. She didn't get out of the way, and he didn't stop.

i dont want to be a conspiracy theorist but I think the murder of this activist is a very serious escalation on the eve of war. it seems that here in the US this has just been brushed under the carpet. Some weeks ago the Pentagon issued a statement that in any war on iraq the US military would make no efforts to avoid injury or killing of independant journalists who did not participate in the pools system. The same goes for human shields and internaitonal volunteers. I cant help but suspect that this Israeli action is jst floating out the boat to see what can be gotten away with. it also serves to intimidate others from interfering with their plans for Palestine during the war.

Some of you may have noticed the comment by a character named 'Saleem' on here - referring to something that 'he' doesn't think should be on the Front Page of the news here.

Yet you can't find what he is talking about can you?

Well the reason for that is that the Israeli agents running a lot of this show here (Aidan) for one - have from the First time I put an essay opinion with some links on it and some addresses of Vital literature about the oil deal all ready made by bush with the 'new' iraqi government -

-have been erasing that infopiece on here - mainly because I accused them of trying to reduce the Visibility of israel's atrocity by not putting the murder of the activist woman is Israel by the army on the front page.

Aidan the israeli agent hypocrite on here keeps erasing that writing - so you may not get to see it. But if I knew a person was being suppressed on here - I would let them hear about it. I hope some of you do that for the sake of free speech.
