The IAWM had a 'national meeting', in Wynn's Hotel last Sunday here's what was discussed/proposed........... Irish Anti-War Movement National Meeting Speakers:
Joe Higgins (SP): keep up pressure on media. Stress illegality of war. Issues discussed under 2) Kieran Allen: Kristina McElroy (Steering Committee/Green Party): proposes that people ring local and government Td's on an hourly basis to voice their opinions. People should also call talk shows. Issues discussed under 3) Michael O'Brien: Connor Costaigh (Writer's Against the War/SWP): Anthology out soon. Steering committee should have contact with flagship companies, e.g. ESB, Waterford Crystal etc.
Melissa (Dundrum Anti-War Group): IAWM produce bumper car stickers. Put generic poster design on web-site.

So the SP want the insustrial action to centre on Shannon. At least it shows they have a sense of humour. Do they really expect the scum in the Airport Police (who just hassled Tim H again) to take strike action.
Thanks for this public service J Public.
What the hell is Byd Barrett thinking? Hold the next meeting after war begins and then every SIX WEEKS? Why not just abolish the meetings and have done with it?
Kieran Allen's direct action bit must have been good! Obviously not good enough to persuade the brave IAWM into taking any though.
From scanning through this, it would seem that the following proposals for direct action were raised:
1. Jimmy from Tralee's proposal to boycott and picket Shannon - only proposals not passed. Instead there is a vague pledge to have "periodic protests at Shannon". I wonder what the periodicity will be? Maybe every time GNAW try to hold a direct action it will be the appropriate time for the IAWM to mobilise in Shannon to sabotage it?
2. Dick Roche's proposal to have a longer stoppage than 10 minutes with occupations(something that will be written off as a tea break even if it works!) also backed up by the TUI delegate. These proposals were essentially both buried by now referring to 10 minute stoppage as 'minimum'. In effect the original proposal for a 10 minute stoppage (with no occupations) was upheld.
Yet again it is interesting that the SWP leadership of the IAWM are more conservative in their actions against the war than even the trade union bureaucrats (whom they love to rail against) and the regional anti-war groups.
Another huge problem here is that the only roles that the local anti-war groups seem to have in the IAWM is to "produce stickers" and "All" are ordered "to help to distribute leaflets during the parade, they will be positioned at different points along the parade to prevent overlapping." I hope that positioning is done with military precision, since those local groups obviously couldn't know where to go and how to sort this out if they didn't have a strong central executive to command them to avoid overlapping.
It's also pretty lame that the IAWM "will leaflet the parade, but stop short on calling for it to become a 'parade for peace'." Ambitious indeed.
Finally, I note that they are going to pay for a full-timer and office space - cutting the SWP's wage bill?
Where is the support for defendants/prisoners????
Where is the targetting of Top Oil - the people doing the re-fuelling in Shannon have businesses in your town....is even a boycott to scary direct action for IAWM???
Delegates chanted
Long live our beloved LEADERS!
Long live Richard Boyd Barrett!
Long Live our Beloved Party!
Why are you so fecking cynical? You were not at the meeting on Sunday. You can't really comment about the ins-and-outs of the discussion!
Fecking cynicism comes when one hears the IAWM attacking other sections of the anti-war movement on the radio, when one sees the Green Party attacking non-violent fence and airplane destruction as "violent" and the SP stirring up shit about "violence", then the same people get together to produce videos and plan what to do when war starts!
Now that's /real/ cynicism!
Noone's commenting on the ins/outs of anything: the actions of the IAWM and its constituent members speak for themselves.
Have a nice protest during the war now! (Where can I buy one of those videos with the stickers?)
buy the stickers buy the video!
For the next IAWN that Sinn Fein be censured and expelled from the IAWN for their loose morals and quick manner of changes sides due to politcal "necessity"
Oh Justin again explain how a stupid photo op will help the peace process.
FUCKING WHORES
Boycott the whitehouse?
Falling off my chair laughing here.
