Notice of school student protest

Islandwide school student protest against the war - Friday March 14th.

We are calling on all school students to walk out of school this friday lunchtime. If based in the city centre we are calling on school students to come along to Leinster street for a protest at the Dail at 1pm.

If not located in the city centre to walk out and form your own protest with other students against this new war Iraq.

In Cork we are mobilising city students to march to peace park for 1pm.

Details about Northern Ireland are coming within the next few days and will be posted on the SY site.

Are the Universities getting involved? TCD is just around the corner!

Some schools don't allow you to go out at lunchtime, unless you have a note from your P & M.

If you are caught truanting you'll get lines, and a jolly good ticking off from the Head Boy.

But whatever you do, don't snitch on a fellow.

Now, there's a sovereign to last you till half-term. Run along and see your House Master.

In many countries Strikes for political reasons are illegal. Thus the main unions in the UK are calling for a one minute silence or work stoppage/go slow at noon.

School, College, Institutes of Higher Education and University students are requested to once again symbolically leave the places of their education and go out onto the street the symbolic place of their community.

If you are not a member of a unionised work collective, you still have a voice, and methods still exist for expression of the collective.

STOP WORK. STOP SCHOOL. GO SLOW. ONE MINUTE SILENCE:

what is important is the ·Act· of collective expression.

Most universities are in their mid term greak at the moment. Im off from TCD for 3 weeks as is the general student body. As such there is lecture to walk out of.

The Dáil isn't sitting this Friday, indeed the Dáil rarely sits on Fridays at all. It normally sits on Thursdays but Fianna Fáil decided not to sit on Thursday either as some of the Ministers wanted to go to Cheltenham. Basically, if the students march here on Friday, there's not going to be anyone about to pay any attention. All the TDs, Ministers etc. will have headed home for the Paddys Day weekend. If it's not too late, changing the day might be worth considering.

Trinity may still be (am I going out on a leg?) nestling between Pearse street and Nassau Street but none of the students will be there wither on Friday.

hmmmm.

so do this mean the good people of Ireland (if there are any left at their usual places of activity) have any hope of joining

The point with Trinity is that there are no lectures to walk out of. Most students myself included are preparing for exams or will be gone back home for paddies weekend.

It would be a mass walk out of the Lecky/Berkley/ Ussher libraries more than anything else

is that none of the undergraduates are obliged to attend their lectures in the first place. I think if you look to the Calender you will also find you are entitled to a quart of beer at exam times and are only obliged by the university to attend tutorials of course your component college or department may have put certain other obligations upon you but you may find a fellow somewhere willing to make your "no lectures no Library no work no WAR (& lots of condoms)(never forget the student priorities)" case at the University senate or whatever its called.

But the young sparks of Trinity could one imagines do something useful outside of the Berkely Lecky Usher 1934/32/36/39 building and where they keep the Book of Kells bit...couldn´t they?

have just issued a suggestion to do it all on March 13 as well with a bit of a twist.
see link.
Vos esperem a totes.

next March 13 is planned a day of student strike at European level to protest against the privitisation of Education and [local bit] the co-ordination of Student Assemblies of València.

EDUCATION IS NOT A BUSINESS.

could Trinity students go with that?

Justin had shown us all that he is just a moron. He thinks that people care where TDs are when they call a protest. I suppose SF have protests so that they can 'lobby' their mates in the other Bourgeois parties. Justin, you think that Bourgeois TDs give a fuck who is outside the gates?

PS
Shane, where the fuck is "Leinster St."? Surely you mean Kildare Street?

I live on Achill Island, and I want to do some action in my school on Friday. As it is "islandwide" and not nationwide should I go ahead with organising anti-war stuff for friday or what?

What is the point in walkin out at lunchtime when the majority of students leave school at lunch for their own reasons. Surly a nationwide strike of classes either before or after the lunch would be much more effective.

Ipsiphi, TCD students are required to attend lectures. Professions students anyway. Law, Science, Engineering and Medicine - all lectures in these subjects are cumpulsory for their students. For obvious reasons.
