 Brazilian story reported on portugal indymedia. and a bit of 'today' in Europe. the Brazilian federal state of Rio is presently in a state of "military curfew" this it is hoped will help authorities end the extreme problems from children to adults due to hard drug use, sale and distribution. The curfew though has not been without unintentional victims, as always. an English teacher (TEFL) Frederico Branco de Farias, 56, has been shot in Rio de Janeiro for passing an army checkpoint. This is the first death since the introduction of operation Guanabara which has been mounted as a paramilitary operation against drug trafficing, use and distribution in the Brazilian city. The incident happened in the Tmás Coelho area to the north of Rio. He was driving his car a blue corsa on the Automobile club avenue bot far from Siva Vale. According to the formal report reigistered by the police district 44ª Delegacia de Polícia (Inhaúma), the teacher was victim of a "stray bullet". The Secretary of public safety (the Brazilian Fedderal state minister) has said "in an operation with such scle and scope it is possible that deaths may occur like this" [said Josias Quintal]. Farias was accompanied b his girlfriend, Rosângela Silva, 38, who was not injured. Other countries where the young TEFL teacher broad my consider going include Europe. Why dont you picket army and RAF bases? You have plenty of them.

It seems to me that comments on the main post should be focusing on exposing things like Brazil's "leftist" government and the "war on drugs". Instead, it is just used as another forum for supposed "anarchists" and supposed "trots" to attack each other over events in Ireland!
I say "supposed" because it is not unlikely that many of these sectarian backbiting posts on Ireland Indymedia are the work of police agents. If I'm wrong, then the Irish left is a lot sicker than the left in the U.S..
