Brilliant and truly informative Article!!

What I despise about the mainstream media is that when it reports on protest actions it only focuses on the 'action' but little about the people involved, their motives and inspirations, let alone the *facts* that led them to protest.

This guy was busking and handing out leaflets to encourage people to go to Shannon. He's as much of an activist as anyone else involved. He's also not the image of the 'violent mob' that the media has portrayed as decending on Shannon this weekend.

In my mind, the purpose of Indymedia is to tell the story of activism our way, independent of the mainstream media, and without the filters of corporate hegemony that typically blind the mainstream media.

Besides, if you don't like this photo, feel free to upload your own! :-)

Please excuse me. I'll just go out and take a few 1000 photos of all the activists I know and stick them up on the website.Your right,it is very informative and interesting and so unlike the mainstream media. How cool!

Did you contribute anything? redJaDe's photo gives context, depth and background to the upcoming Shannon protest. It shows a human trying to raise support from other humans to protest the mistreatment of his fellows.

Words aren't everything and to some extent the picture is a welcome relief from the sordid attacks on GNAW.

Great phot RedDaJe! Keep it up.

Sid, did you ever see a photo/drawing on a documnent(s) of information such as a newspaper/magazine/book etc.??

Fair play to Rusty Gullet and for JaDe for taking his picture. It brings to life the passion and the preparation behind the drama of the protest itself. keep it up!

this is a brilliant peice, simple strong message. so often we are swamped on both sides of the argument with high politics and academic jargon taking away from the actual reason why war is being opposed, innocent civilians dying in turn middle class voices getting the main stream exposure speaking narrowly on the anti war movement. we need the human touch. it is these aspects that insipre, move, and motivate others. showing diversity is incedibly important, so more of it please.

Instead of getting up off your arse and mobilising for a mass direct action at Shannon, all you can do is sit on your arse and 'busker'. You cretins make me really mad.
