Southport attacker Axel Rudakubana had declared the need for "white genocide". Is this why the authorities are so adamant that it wasn't a terrorist offence?

Another alarmist climate scare story bites the dust as new findings published in Nature show no decline in the strength of the Gulf Stream since the 1960s. Seems the 'day after tomorrow' won't be freezing after all.

COLOMBIAN DEATH SQUADS KILL AGAIN

category national | miscellaneous | news report author Wednesday February 26, 2003 15:20author by Sean Smyth - colombian trade unionists solidarity campaignauthor email seansmyth1964 at hotmail dot com Report this post to the editors

After a brief lull in the attacks trade unionists in Colombia are once again in the front line of attacks from both rightwing paramilitary death squads and the fascist like government under the dictatorship of Uribe.

After a brief lull in the attacks trade unionists in Colombia are once again in the front line of attacks from both rightwing paramilitary death squads and the fascist like government under the dictatorship of Uribe.

On Friday 21st February the National trade union of University workers “SINTRAUNICOL” received information from reliable sources that the Self Defence Forces of Colombia (AUC) planed to assassinate the following comrades: JOSE ADONIA MUNER ORTEGA, National president Sintraunicol, Dr. ALEXANDER LOPEZ MAYA, CARLOS ARBEY GONZALEZ QUINTERO, Sintraunicol Cali, JESUS ANTONIO GONZALEZ LUNA and LUIS CARLOS MOREIRA ROLDAN.

Shortly after a meeting was held with the Rector of the University of Valle, to discuss the threats SINTRAEMCALI activist FREDY PERILLA MONTOYA was assassinated.

At 7:30 p.m. FREDY PERILLA MONTOYA was stopped by unknown individuals who were travelling in a White Truck with polarised windows, with number plates BNJ 469.
The individuals tried to force him to enter the truck, but he refused, and when they realised that they would be unable to carry out their mission to take him away they then turned and shot him six times.

The events occurred just 50 metres from the Central Telephone office in San Fernando, Cali, where he had worked for five years. As usual no one has been arrested.

The Association for Social Research and Action, NOMADESC, the Cali Municipal Corporation Workers Union, SINTRAEMCALI, and other organisations that belong to the "The National and International Human Rights Campaign Against Privatisation, Corruption, and the Criminalisation of Social Protest", strongly denounce the vile assassination of the SINTRAEMCALI activist FREDY PERILLA MONTOYA, carried out on 21st February, 2003.
And the death threats issued against the above.

Please send messages to:

1.- Demand that the Colombian government stops its harassment, threats, persecution and other crimes against activists and leaders SINTRAEMCALI.

2.- Call for an impartial investigation into the above mentioned events and sanction the material and intellectual authors of this horrific crime.
3.- Sufficient security is provided immediately and all necessary measures to safeguard the physical and psychological integrity of those named above and there family’s
4.- That the state organisms of control, that have been investigating earlier systematic persecution and assassination attempts especially on the life of Alexander López Maya immediately present the findings of their investigation, and explain why they have freed people who were involved in these events.
5. Demand that the Colombian government abandons Resolution 141 which aims to put EMCALI EICE into liquidation and that they comply with the earlier agreement signed on the 29th of January, 2002.

I would support the call if it also called for action against the mass murderers of the FARC. But it doesn't. Why not ? Unlike a lot of the Irish commentators on Colombia, I condemn murder and kidnap whether it comes from the AUC or the FARC or ELN or anyone else.
By the way, don't abuse the English language by calling Uribe a dictator. He was elected by a landslide in a free vote last year. The Number One reason for his victory in my view was that people were just sick of the previous govt's inability to bring peace to the country.

Hitler was elected, Milosevic was elected. Should we also not call them dictators? Maybe you should look up the meaning of dictator. I'll give you a clue - elections have nothing to do with it.
