Tikkun A.N.S.W.E.R.s back

category national | miscellaneous | news report author Tuesday February 18, 2003 18:34author by Daithi Report this post to the editors

The very public dispute between left-wing rabbi Michael Lerner from "Tikkun" (a progressive Jewish community in SF) and anti-war organisers from A.N.S.W.E.R. (Act Now to Stop War and End Racism - associated with the Workers World party) continued right up to Saturday's day of action. Read the links if you are interested; in short, Lerner, a long-time anti-war activist and critic of Israel wanted to speak at a Feb 15th rally, but claims that he was prevented from doing so; ANSWER's response is that he publicily criticised ANSWER in the media and thus violated a prior agreement. His criticism was that ANSWER was linking the Iraq issue to an extreme anti-Israel position.

No one would object - nor should they - if klansmen, nazis or other scum (even "liberal" ones like David Duke) get excluded from making presentations at antiwar rallies. S

So why should zionists (and - sigh - by zionists I really MEAN zionists, not Jews) get to do so?

Zionist criminality is now so evident that anyone who supports the existence of a "state" of "Israel" should hang his or her head in shame.

While nazis and the klan TALK about killing and bombing (and occasionally actually do so) the zionist track record speaks for itself.

Counterpunch has a good summary of the whole affair in the link at the bottom of this post. There's no way this was based on anti-Semitism, it was clearly that Lerner had attacked ANSWER and the coalition ha d an agreement that those that attacked coalition members publically wouldn't be invited. Their protest, their right.

There's also an interesting call for support for Lerner from Chuck of Infoshop fame. I think his dislike of ANSWER (which is reasonable) has got the better of him.

Michael Lerner is "not" a zionist in exactly the same way that David Duke is "not" a nazi.

BTW: That's sarcasm, people.
