I should have smashed that plane

category national | miscellaneous | news report author Sunday February 16, 2003 15:44author by Eoin Dubsky - Refueling Peaceauthor email info at refuelingpeace dot orgauthor phone 00.33.1.4665.2478 Report this post to the editors

USAF Hercules painted in Shannon deployed to Gulf

According to the Center for Defense Information, the US Air Force HC-130P "Hercules" warplane which I spray-painted at Shannon Airport last September has since been deployed to the Gulf for Bush's next oil war (http://www.cdi.org/terrorism/forcesinthemideast5.cfm).

While I'm filled with hope by the massive peace demonstrations in Dublin and other cities across Europe and the world, I can't help but feel that we also need to resist the military traffic passing through our countries more directly if we can.

there is some great stuff going on in Holland with peoples weapons inspectors carrying out their own inspections of military bases etc, I think indymedia.nl has some stuff on it. The commedian Mark Thomas is doing something similar.

...and rightfully so. Plane-smashers like yourself were described as priviliged middle-class rich-kids, with nothing better to do with their year off, than go round smashing planes for the benefit of their won self-esteem.

Rather good description (and on national TV too).

If only all priviliged middle-class rich-kids were so courageous! The war machine would be on its knees.

The turnout on Saturday has shown that far from turning people off, Direct Action has galvanised Public Opinion against the war.

Those fools on Midnight Court just speak for themselves.

I missed the Midnight Court, but I agree: I can't think of much better I could do with my free time than resist Bush's imperialist war as it passes through Ireland.

The only answer to being called middle class is 'so what'. It's catch all bullshit that has nothing to do with anything
