 A broad-based Cork Anti-War Campaign was formed at a large organisational meeting in the Imperial Hotel last night. The meeting also saw the emergence of a Cork Trade Unionists Against the War, a student/third level group, and the beginnings of local groups in the county. The next meeting of CAWC will be held upstairs in O'Donoghue's Bar in Drawbridge Street next Monday at 8pm. All welcome! Also, for those unable to travel to Dublin on Saturday, there will be an action/protest at Daunt Square from 2pm. Bring a home-made placard or something else to symbolise your opposition to US/UK warmongering.

Jump To Comment: 1 2 3The Cork Peace Alliance is quite a different entity to this new broad-based campaign, which it fully supports. The CPA is essentially an anti-capitalist/anti-globalisation group that deals with a variety of issues simultaneously. For example, aside from its anti-war activity, it is currently organising a public meeting on traveller issues and is the motor behind the Free the Old Head of Kinsale Campaign. There are normally four or five items on the CPA agenda each week, which are unconnected to the anti-war movement. There was a general feeling that a broad-based campaign, focusing entirely on anti-war activity, was needed. The large attendance at last nights meeting has made this a reality.
