SCHOOLS AGAINST WAR

Press release from Schools Against War

School Students to demonstrate this Wednesday in Belfast at 4.30

Members of the newly formed schools against war group will tomorrow hold a picket outside the American consulate demanding justification from America on the need to attack Iraq.

Speaking on behalf of the group Chris Cowie said, “Last week we asked the American consulate to justify to us why there should be a war in an open debate. We’ve sent petitions round schools and have got a good response. Yesterday staff told us that they would not participate in such an event.”

“All we are saying is that we should be told why war is inevitable and why is it George Bush wants this war so bad. They have refused to even tell school students what’s going on and we are the ones that will have to pick up the pieces.”

“We have collected hundreds of signatures in the last few weeks demanding a speaker in a debate. We will also be handing in other petitions that peace groups around Northern Ireland want handed in as well.”

For further details phone Chris Cowie on 0796 0752 782
