 230 people attended Monday night's public meeting organised by the Galway Alliance Against War. The media presence, both local and national, was substantial. War is not inevitable, was the clear message from platform speakers, Denis Halliday and Michael D. Higgins. If enough of us rally on 15 February, the warmongers may yet be stopped. People were eager to go on the Dublin, to assist with banner-making, and to get involved in other ways. Buses have now been booked by a number of groups: GAAW itself, Galway Students Against War, Galway Trade Unionists Against War, Conamara in Aghaidh an Chogaidh, Galway Labour Party, and Galway Sinn Fein

The meeting was brilliant and a great turnout too, and I know lots of other people who couldn't make it, but will be up to Dublin on the 15th.
Wow, 230 people. Anyone got any idea what the population in the region is ? The fact is most people don't give a fuck and the idea that you can you have any influence on politicians is ludicrous. They will do what they want and won't pay any attention to a few crusty hippies and some student wankers. It will all be forgotten in 6 months never mind when the next election comes around.
gubu obviously you don't have much experience 200 people meeting in galway is huge. For every one going to a meeting there are others with the same feelings who haven't bothered. And every one who goes speaks to friends and family etc. You shouldn't be so cynical I haven't heard of a meeting that big in galway ever.
