Wow, look at those figures, you mean they actually managed to get at least 100 votes before the system fell over? (explanation for the non maths minded: they're both primes)

Legally it's a Garda matter.

Politically it's profoundly flawed.

It's a decision made for our Government by the US , with US interests at heart. The Government will rue the day.

The Irish Military is protecting the American Empire from hatchets.

who would have thunk it?!

The airport was threatened by the worst scariest bunch ever. Two weeks before the peaceable protest of January 18 the whole place was under code three red alert. Not by a woman with a hatchet were they frightened, and not by five Catholic workers were they called out. As was said of Logan Airport, Boston, culpable in the 11 September disaster, security was so lax at Shannon Airport "you could drive a tank through it any morning of the week." They did no security inspection, and they inspected no planes. They inspected the money, all right, and it looked like legal tender. It was to the untrained eye, greenbacks, but to the skilled currency examiner it was printed with blood red ink. 550,000 Iraqui children have died in the last ten years of sanctions against Iraq. That's one dead child for every dollar of damage Mary Kelly did to that plane.
Who sold us out and put us in danger this way?
Head of Aer Rianta, Minister for Foreign Affairs, Minister of Defense, Aminister of Transportation, and Bertie Ahearn.
Did you know that more than one Irish person has indicted the above gang of five for the crime of treason against the Irish Republic.
Prevention is worth working. If the worst happens, there won't be any cure.
Or as Mary Kelly said:
"We have to do the impossible to prevent the unthinkable."
In this case the impossible is trying to motivate the self-absorbed, self-seeking, self-satisfied comfort class (who just can't be bothered because war is inevitable) to write a letter, send a fiver and take a walk. Motivating people to act as if they live in a democracy is harder than any of these other "actions" Compared to this kind of work I would consider pulling an action myself.
But that's the way of it. And as long as the pen is mightier, I'll fight this way. It is an impossible job, the motive is selfless, so unlikely, and the ultimate aim is hopeless. Perfect! Let's do it! Make war on war by creating peace through peaceful means. Demonstrate that peace is good business or we are truly lost. If we can't invest in peace and make money through peace then truly we'll have to say:
"SHOW'S OVER....ENJOY THE MATINEE"

You think that the departure of the Peace Camp will make it safe for US military planes at Shannon?

You think the presence of 120 Irish army soldiers will give the US military planes and their masters peace of mind (note there are 120 but they'll be working on shifts - so there'll be about 40 there at any one time).

So you make Shannon impenetrable for anyone with a hatchet, hammer or can of paint?

Think again.

*PS my headline is an old expression and was not meant to be sexist or weightist.

these type of polls have no scientific validity.

to do a proper poll you need to get a representative sample of over 1,000 which then gives you an error rate of + or - 3%. One in twenty such polls are likely to have an error rate which exceeds this.

think again about the troops. they wont be on 8 hour shifts, 12 hour ones if they are lucky. they get no overtime, this is why they are using them instead of gardai, its a lot cheaper.
