Post 15/2

category national | miscellaneous | news report author Friday January 31, 2003 18:20author by Janus Report this post to the editors

What are the plans for the post 15/2 era? I mean it seems sometimes as if we're all obsessed with building for the 15th, and it's necessary to put in the mountain of work I agree, but there doesn't seem to be much discussion about where we go after it.

Here we need a strategy that we can swing into effect once the 'official' declaration of war happens. Here in Toronto, Canada people are planning to meet at the US Consulate at 5pm if war is declared during the day, and at midday the next day if war is declared in the evening....maybe that's a start........

Seriously, do you remember America declaring war on Afghanistan? They just started bombing the place to pieces and five days later the UN Security Council got a letter from Washington saying effectively "If you've been watching CNN then you probably already know... we're bombing Afghanistan... so there!"

Just keep an eye on Indymedia and you'll know what's goin on!!!!!!!!
If something is planned in general it will be posted here and word gets around!
Obviously if people want to plan something of their own on the QT then if your involved your involved!

Well .....short of an official declaration I'm guessing whatever happens at the UN Security Council will more or less amount to the same thing.

Will people in Dublin be converging on the embassy?

If the U.S. decide to go to it against Iraq then their embassy, and that of their 'coalition' (ie UK) should definitely be the focal point for peace protests and demonstrations. Not to forget the good work being done at Shannon - this may be more suitable for folks on this side of the island. But 15 February has too be the big one at this point.

Perhaps we should encourage a boycott of American/British goods and services. If they act unilatilerally or the Sec council resol. is as transpareent as it's bound to be then a boycott could have very wide support?
