Sometimes politicians have to lose to win so the other side can show its true colours. Trump is the standout example, says Prof James Allan. Had he won in 2020, we would not have had the blitz of the last four weeks.

US Plane Disarmed at Shannon

category national | miscellaneous | news report author Wednesday January 29, 2003 12:29author by Adamauthor email a_d_conway at yahoo dot co dot uk Report this post to the editors

Peace Activist vs Military Jet

A local peace activist was arrested this morning after attempting to disarm a US military plane parked at Shannon Airport.

Mary Kelly entered the airport last night and succeeded in damaging the nose of the plane with a hammer before she was apprehended. Mary said that she felt compelled to act after the statement last weekend from the Transport Minister that he was allowing the transport of munitions through Shannon and because the Gardai were not doing their job, investigating and preventing illegal military use of Shannon, properly.

Shannon has been the focus of much protest recently as it is being used a staging post by US military planes en route to the Middle East. This opposition has taken many forms, including a number of marches (the latest was attended by over 2000 people) and the establishment of a permanent Peace Camp at the airport. The Peace Camp said today that while Mary’s action was not planned by the Camp as a group, they “fully understood why she felt she had to do it” and “offer her our full support”.

A previous attempt to directly disarm a US Navy Hercules Aircraft was made in September last year when peace activist Eoin Dubsky entered Shannon and sprayed the windscreen of the plane. His case is came before the courts in December[1] and a verdict is expected in February.

Mary is currently being held at Shannon Garda Station and is expected to appear in court some time later today.

Not only do I feel it is the duty of the minority in America who aren't sheep to stop this, but I think the rest of the world wants to stop the United States as well.

Know an empire when you see it. People of the world, the United States of America is assuming its place as the world police. God help us all if it succeeds in doing this, for I feel in the end, even Nazi Germany and its laws and methods will seem timid in comparison.

If anyone wishes to speak their mind to Bush, I have provided a link on my website at http://www.c0balt.com/index.shtml where you can go. Just follow the link above and click the JUST SAY NO image to send a quick email to Herr Bush to let him know what you think of his oil war!

Terrorism is something that happens to everyone at points in there life in every country. From what I have learned about your country there is some sort of law that says your country will not aid in a war effort from the homeland. Or something close to this effect. Regardless of who is protesting these war efforts it is good that people are willing to put their time and efforts into stopping a war. Thanks for participating in your freedom and the freedom of your countries supposed independence.

In Peace,
Pete

Why do you go on with such crap. your postings are invariably too long, too frequent and too full of shite. Have to say I pity the anarchists if they have to listen to you. I'd be very surpirsed if anyone outside of yourself actually care what you think. Give it a rest eh

Personnally I agree with any attack on the planes at shannon because lets face it those pilots and that equipment is going to be deliberately used to kill civilians and I do mean that they will set out to intentionally kill the innocent because that is how you get a country to surrender and always has been. I think it's a shame that we can only get in the way of this war by performing these actions which may cost somebody their freedom or even life in a worst case scenario. The government as usual will pick the big money people over the people it supposedly serves and we will all play second fiddle to their bank accounts, while they choose to lie and then go back on their lies and ignore any protesters and the gardai will choose to defend the decision they know to be wrong and injust. I use the word choose here because it is a choice, any garda has the right to not harass the protestors and can even join them as they are more than welcome.

Solomon´s judgement demnostrates the contempt of court felt by the two women.
They walk away from the Patriarchy that would have divided their child in two.
They chose by their contempt of court to save the child´s life.

There is jurisprudence and there is morality.
There are ethics and there are absolutely massive sets of logic and numbers in a beautiful chaotic flow.

It´s great.

The Irish courts do not have the resources of Solomon.
