Call for Review at Kerry Airport![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Pádraig Garvey, Kerry Republican Sinn Féin January 24, 2003 A call has been made for increased security at Kerry Airport as a result of the growing signs of conflict between the United States and Iraq and the use of Shannon as a transit stop for US military. South Kerry Republican Sinn Féin spokesman Pádraig Garvey from Caherciveen said today that while the main focus of attention is on the role of Shannon Airport and its use in the build up of American forces for war, the location and function of Kerry Airport at Farrenfore must not be overlooked. "The fact is that Kerry Airport could be a target for extreme militants in the event of any conflict - we know that Shannon is already well protected because of the presence there of the Peace Camp. Therefore it is logical to assume that Kerry Airport could become a secondary target in the event of any conflict. "The level of security at Kerry Airport must be examined in the light of any possible threat in the event of conflict. We have seen that in the United States the smaller regional airports were used by people intent on highlighting their grievances. "We are now asking that the safety of the travelling public at Kerry Airport is uppermost and that a review of security now take place to re-assure passengers that all necessary precautions are being taken." |
