Tie a coloured ribbon round an Eyre Square tree, is the title of a campaign to help save the 90 trees due for the chop in Eyre Square in Galway City Centre. To date the Galway Environmental Alliance has been running a highly successful and highly visible campaign to ‘tie a coloured ribbon round an Eyre Square tree’. All of the condemned trees in the square now have numerous coloured ribbons tied to them. There has been a huge response from the general public. Campaign Song to the tune of ‘tie a yellow ribbon’. Jump To Comment: 1It is of paramount importance that the trees in eyre square be preserved. This is not because trees look lovely are are all round nice things in general, it is because all life on the planet should be treated with respect.
Humans are inseperable from nature, we are intrinsically linked through flows of matter and energy with all life on the planet.By destroying the environment we are ultimately destroying ourselves. Life on the planet is not under threat from human activity, life will survive but the environment left for humans to live in will not be cosy at all. By felling trees we cut off our oxygen supply.
By felling trees we destroy the natural habitats for numerous animal species.
