Eyes on Shannon![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Digest of Shannon protest breaking news from other sites RTE and the commercial media have been reporting on the Shannon demonstration today; here's some of their reports so far (as of 4.30 pm Irish time): Online.ie/Examiner breaking news quotes Richard Boyd Barrett and John Gormley before the march in an article entitled "Crowds swell for Shannon protest" (http://www.online.ie/news/latest_irish/viewer.adp?article=1929899), with more recent reports at http://www.online.ie/news/latest_irish/viewer.adp?article=1929955 and http://www.online.ie/news/latest_irish/viewer.adp?article=1929948. RTE has updated its article a number of times and are currently reporting a Garda estimate of 1,500 protestors. Changes are being made on an ongoing basis to http://www.rte.ie/news/2003/0118/shannon.html and the main news site has a photograph from the demonstration. Unison/Independent: I can't seem to be able to log in today but their front page has the same estimate of 1,500. No photographs, unless they are in the logged-in section. Many morning newspapers here in North America are carrying a Reuters report that quotes Adam Conway from the peace camp in the third paragraph as part of a global round-up of anti-war protests. See for example http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/articles/A10349-2003Jan18.html. Finally, the Irish Times reported at 4pm that "more than 1000" protesters were "expected" to arrive at the airport. This story looks as if it hasn't been updated in a while, though there is a good photo on the breaking news index. http://www.ireland.com/newspaper/breaking/2003/0118/breaking5.htm |
