Genoa: Italy Condemned by European Parliament Report etc.

Genoa Euro Parliament Appeal for Video Footage True Story of Diaz school raid

There is a call for the collection video evidence for the purposes of the trials and investigations around Genoa. A formal announcement form the legal team will be made in the coming days, this appeal is especially aimed at international participoants many of whose footage never found its way into the hands of thos einvolved inthe legal fallout.
-----------

Meanwhile yesterday the annual report of the European Parliament was today passed by a narrow margin. Article 28 of the docyument 'deplores the suspension of human rights during demonstrations and in particular on the occasion of the meeting of the G8 in Genoa".

A further amendment proposed by the PSE stated that "as regards the disturbances in Genoa we will continue to give particular attention to the outcome of the administrative investigations initiated in Italy to determine if on that occasion there was recourse to inhuman or degrading punishments."

The report was pased by a narrow margin: 274 -269 (14 abstentions)

The block which Fine Gael formed part of all voted against it, in Irish terms:
BANOTTI, Mary Elizabeth
DOYLE, Avril
CUSHNAHAN, John Walls
McCARTIN, John Joseph
SCALLON, Dana Rosemary

It would be interesting to know how FF MEPS and other Irish MEPS voted as I recall that Niall Andrews actually gave the Italians a bit of shit after Genoa.

A translation of the most recent revelatrions concerning the cover-upo of the Diaz school search and destroy operation (involving the planting of molotov cocktails, a faked stabbing the fictitious stoning of police officers as pretext for the raid) can be found here:

Iosaf put it (myself) as
where could a young fine gaeler go stay on holidays in Italy?
who would they phone up?
I know where I stay when I´m in Italy.
Apparantly it´s with t********s.

Strange they weren´t that a few years ago.
Oh no when young Bonnoti strode off to the EC with focloir in one hand and italian in the other in her maiden speech (which was in gaeilge and stopped by the english chairperson) she was full of "democratic" spirit.
Openess in Europe.

Yes.
No.

Bad news for you scumbags and layabouts who are determined to cause mayhem yet again during the World Economic Forum later this year and Ireland's 6 six month Presidency of the European Union beginning January 2004 the loyal and dedicated officers of An Garda Siochana are waiting for you. We have got excellent crowd control classes from the Police Service of Northern Ireland who know well have to deal with scumbags like you and yes we have gotten training from the Italian Police as well. Ha Ha you you lazy layabout idlers.

at the end of 2001.
You were treated to video tapes of Genoa, Barcelona, Gothenburg, Davos, Seattle amongst others.
You were handed documents wihch outlined policing options for public order issues.
You didn´t seem to learn very much.
Your behaviour of the bank holiday weekend was as I ahve written before inexcusable.
Because your senoir officers had been advised by their peers the bsetway of doing things.
It is a pity that ordinary guards have to suffer the incompetence of their higher officers.

and the largest attendance?
No.
Becuase the Gardai know that in Sweden and Italy steps were taken to endanger life.
They know that in Italy life was taken.
They know that elsewhere a different agreed approach to the exercising of democratic mandate succeeded in less protesters and police suffering the slings and knocks of fortune.

Your senior officers in the Gardaí are very bad at their job.
pity.
