Galway Alliance Against War at Hewlett-Packard Last week (3 & 4 Dec), Irish Examiner journalist, Michael O’Farrell, revealed that the Hewlett-Packard plant in Galway (recently Compaq, and before that, Digital), was producing vital software for nuclear weaponry in both the US and France. The Galway Alliance Against War responded on Thursday evening (05/12/02) with a hastily-organised protest. Twenty members of the group, in the guise of ‘weapons inspectors’ went to the plant in Ballybrit, to demand that all work on weapons of mass destruction be discontinued. We were prevented by security from passing the front gate, but our action got extensive coverage in the local media -Galway Bay FM, Galway Advertiser, TG4- and some in the national media. Since our protest, further information about the Hewlett-Packard programme has been brought to our attention, Follow-up activities are planned therefore.
