The turnout was pretty crap, the vandalism didn't go down well on the nine o'clock news, although the one redeeming feature is that it's about time some of those crusty protesters had a bath. It's a pity the guy with the dreads didn't bring some Wash and Go.

The protest did as much to alienate ordinary people from the cause as anything else. Can normal people really relate to a few hippys holding hands in a pond and defacing property that they will have to pay to get cleaned up.

If you call this vandalism, then what do you call the destruction of the
infrastructure of a country and the murder of innocent civilians?

It's amazing the way that you jump at the chance to critize the actions
of a few people and how they look, but you are strangely silent about the
genocidal sanctions that this pond protest was trying to draw attention to.

If you have better suggestions to make that would encourage more people to get
involved and become aware of the issues, then we would gladly welcome them.

This is protest.
Well thought out protest.
It links and gives tribute to a recently deceased and respected Pacifist.

Vandalism is a curious expression.
It suggests the wanton damage of property generally public.
The Vandals were one of the North European peoples who entered the integral home territories of the Roman Empire from the 4th century on. Together with the Visigoths and Goths they form a significant ancestral pool of many present day European peoples including the Germans, northern Spanish and French.
Now something generally glossed over by the Latin teachers is the exasct way that these Goths, Vandals and Visigoths and "migrant" visitors arrived in Rome.
Well I´ll let you know.
Just about the time that teenage girls were being smeared in Cow´s genital fluids then left inside a leather contraption shaped as a Cow in the middle of a public entertainment arena whereupon a Bull would be allowed to violate her for the amusement of the civilised, the nomadic peoples of Northern and Eastern Europe started moving in to town.
They got really really mad.
They burnt the city to the ground.
Mob rule the civilised Romans called it.
I am not interested in moral relativism.

I'd like to reiterate Terry's invitation to Jason & Paul. Obviously they aware of how to appeal to the public so they can "relate" to all the "hippys" that also double as intelligent people with conscience's they are prepared to act upon. evidently we have a lot to learn from these guys, how to organise, get a good turn out, where & how to get our message across, how to dress, do our hair, did i leave anything out?
By your smug dismissal of the action and generalisation of the attendees it's painfully clear you weren't even there. maybe you have something to learn/offer by showing up next time.

i'm somehow reminded of the two hecklers in the muppets.

the heads involved in this should completely ignore the comments by the one troll writing under several names to criticise them.

This was a very moving protest in the long and honourable tradition of Catholic Worker. It nearly made me want to be Christian.

Perhaps not the feeding of the 5000 bu the feeding of the 300. A few ham sandwiches or a singles of chips would have gone down a treat and had everyone praising the lord.

I have known Ciaron for many years, he has the utmost integrity. These actions are prophetic and deeply sincere. Many people support them and I thank God for those who are willing to risk their greatest gift, their freedom, to speak truth to power. Just as Shannon Airport is one link in the Bush/Blair War Plan so half a dozen people standing in a pond in protest is just one small part of a huge resistance to the war. What more fitting way to celebrate the life of Phill Berrigan, who has inspired so many of us, than to carry on the good work in whatever nonviolent ways we can. A lovely little action to wake people up to the war in their midst.
