Cork Activists in Kinsale Court![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Two activists appeared in Kinsale District court yesterday charged with criminal damage to a fence at the Old Head of Kinsale. Jim Blake and James Mc Barron were summonsed to appear at the District Court in Kinsale yesterday. They were charged with criminal damage to a fence on the Old Head of Kinsale. There is an ongoing dispute over public access to the Old Head of Kinsale (formerly a beautiful headland and walk now the most exclusive and expensive golf course in Ireland) Over a dozen "Peoples Picnics" have been organised with hundreds climbing fences to gain access. Last Easter someone cut a new fence erected by the golf course, during the picnic. Jim Blake wasn't even on the Old Head, though he supports the campaign. His charges were dismissed in Court. The Gardai conceded "mistaken identity". However Jim is persuing compensation for his loss of earnings and expenses. James Mc Barron has applied for free legal aid and his case is adjourned until February 6th. He adamantly denies the charge and will be rigourously contesting it. Witnesses will testify to McBarrons innocence and his opposition to the fence cutting as opposed to climbing. |
