Globalise resistance bulletin

category national | miscellaneous | news report author Tuesday November 26, 2002 19:23author by a Report this post to the editors

I Notice there is no mention of Shannon Demo on 8/12

Globalise Resistance bulletin 26/11/02 1. Anti-war demo 7th December 2. Public meeting with Kevin Danagher 3. Demonstration – Israeli Embassy, Dublin 6pm Friday 29th Nov.

1. Anti-war demo 7th December
The Irish Anti-War Movement has called a major demonstration on 7th
December 2pm at the Central Bank, Dublin.
It would appear that the Irish government is determined to join in the
war effort and not be left on the sidelines. The Minister for Foreign
Affairs, Mr Cowen, made a statement yesterday that the UN Security
Council would have no other option but to endorse an American-led
military assault on Iraq if the council found that Baghdad was in
material breach of the UN resolution on disarmament,
“It is Ireland's consistent foreign policy position that we seek to
resolve matters without resort to military action, however, such action
is provided under the charter as a matter of last resort, and the threat
of military action is something which has been part of the necessary
approach to a regime which has been in defiance of the international
community for years".
The Iraqi Foreign Minister Mr Naji Sabri has sent a letter to the UN
complaining that the real motive for the resolution "was to create
pretexts to attack Iraq under an international cover". Baghdad has until
December 8th to make a full declaration of its armaments.
In this climate it is absolutely imperative that Irish people stand up
and let the government know that we strongly object to Ireland’s
involvement in this conspiracy.

2. Public meeting with Dr. Kevin Danaher

Globalise Resistance will host a meeting with Dr. Kevin Danaher, on
Saturday 30th December, 4pm in the new Liberty Hall Centre.

for action.

California at Santa Cruz. His areas of expertise include:

Do you not support the demo at Shannon on the 8th December or what? Evidently you don't, why not? Most people who are supporting it are also supporting the march on the 7th, how about a bit of reciprocal support?

Sorry there, pressed enter by mistake. Here is the email I received yesterday evening from GR. Hope this settles the matter as I think Nora is genuine when she states that there had been omissions in the first mail.

GR bulletin update

Apologies! Here are some items which were omitted from yesterdays
bulletin.

1. Globalise Resistance monthly meetings resume
2. Shannon demo

1. Globalise Resistance monthly meetings resume

As was mentioned in a previous bulletin, GR will be resuming monthly
meetings, beginning on Monday 2nd December, at 7.30 in Bowes of Fleet
St. After which meetings will be held on the first Monday of every month
(although we might put it off ‘til the second Monday for January).

Since the monthly meetings were suspended to allow GR time to plan for
the European Social Forum, GR membership has expanded considerably. With
this in mind, and also with regard to incorporating decisions and
declarations made in Florence, we intend to use this opportunity to
reorganise the organising committee to reflect the broader movement.

All are welcome to attend. We particularly appeal to those who feel that
their interests are not being represented in GR, whether representing a
group or acting in an independent capacity, to take this opportunity to
participate.

2. Shannon demo

This is a call to anyone who wants to come to the demo at Shannon on Dec
8th or who is part of any group where people might. (E.g. student green
socs, etc.)

this info is up on the web with pdfs of flyers
and posters in the files section of the ggantiwar list

Please spread the word. If you know of any events we could publicise
this at then
let us know. Also, there is a public meeting on Wed Dec 4th, 7:30 pm,
Liberty Hall

Speakers:

I don't know if you get ahold of any other American alternative media, but there are crazy things happening here, people are beginning to be denied passports, activists are receiving fines, being jailed for years NOW!!! and are being sentenced not to shop up to another protest, and being told not to try to leave the country. HELLO, I am thirty four years old, do you know what it feels like to come from a country that has done nothing but decimate the planet and all species on it, and has more prisioners in its jails than any other country in the world, and has more women raped than any other country in the world, and has a military expenditure and budget that exceeds that of every nation combined. many people here now are having to cut back on meals, people are on the street more than ever, they are taking housing away from the mentally ill, closing schools, privitizing the federal government agencies, repealing all environmental laws, logging our remaining old growth forests, and basically dictating their, all .00010% of them will upon a people unable to stop the largest military state in the world. HELP IRELAND, we are the country with a dictator that must be stopped, we are the country with a regime that must be changed, and now.....we cannot do it alone, we are marching in every major
