Why did Sinn Fein boycott the anti-war march in Cork on the 16th? Was it because you don't want to upset the yanks?

This international day of solidarity exposes alot about Sinn Féin.

Most people would think that an international day of solidarity with the people of Cuba and Palestine is a good thing. And it would be a good thing IF you showed solidarity with the people of these countries and not their undemocratic bureaucratic leaderships.

Will SF be offering criticisms of Arafat and the PLO? will they criticise Castro? the answer is that they wont.

so do the sp regard the plo as a terrorist organisation?

do they support the palestinians in their struggle against the israelis?

do they believe that all settlers should be removed from the occupied territories?

why are the sp joining in the attack on the palestinians?

do the sp support cubas right to exist?

do they support the us blockade of cuba?

do they support the cia black ops against cuba which have resulted in the deaths of thousands of cubans?

do the sp support the cuban emigres in miami whos clearly stated aim is to impose a fascvist dictatorship?

Why are the SP, once again, lining up on the side of Imperialism.

Some answers, rather than abuse, would be welcome.

"so do the sp regard the plo as a terrorist organisation?"

The PLO are an organisation that has failed ordinary palestinians. They do not direct the anger of Palestinians towards socialist ideas.

"do they support the palestinians in their struggle against the israelis?"

Yes, we support palestinians in their struggle against the Israeli state and US imperialism. We think that ordinary palestinians and israelis should unite on class issues and overthrow both their governments. Class unity and democratic planned ownership is the only solution to the conflict in Israel/Palestine.

"do they believe that all settlers should be removed from the occupied territories?"

The issue of settlers and the right of return can only really be solved through socialism. We oppose the settlements.

"why are the sp joining in the attack on the palestinians?"

We never attacked the Palestinians. We attack their corrupt bankrupt leadership. Do you think we should support Arafat and his cronies unconditionally?!

"do the sp support cubas right to exist?"

Yes.

"do they support the us blockade of cuba?"

No.

"do they support the cia black ops against cuba which have resulted in the deaths of thousands of cubans?"

No.

"do the sp support the cuban emigres in miami whos clearly stated aim is to impose a fascvist dictatorship?"

No.

Our position on Cuba is that we give Cuba conditional support. Cuba has a planned economy. We welcome this, and we recognise the gains that a planned economy brings. At the same time we call for the democratisation of this planned economy. We give critical support, ie we do raise criticisms we have of Castro & his bureaucracy.

i am genuinely pleased to see your reply. it wasn't at all clear from your original posting as to where you stood on both palestine & cuba.

seeing every sf posting as an opportunity to attack results in your position being open to misintepertation.

you could easily have made clear your support for the cuban & palestinian people AND made clear your valid criticisms of the plo & ccp.

i realise we continue to have differences in our respective analysis of these questions; but theres no need to polemicise about that.

Some of your criticisms are valid, so come to the event and make them. Ask the Palestinian Ambassador about PLO corruption, ask the Cuban Ambassador about Cuban political prisoners. No-one is stopping you. All are welcome. Come and take part.

On the other notes, I have no idea why SF in Cork didn't turn up to the march on the 16th but the Yanks know our policy on the war on Iraq and attending a march in Cork or not attending will have no bearing on that. Frankly, i don't attend some events because I don't like the organisers. Doesn't mean I don't support the aim.

I would be surprised if it was any easier to get answers from these individuals than from Gerry Adams in Shannon on Saturday.

I am sure he will have a little chat with them just like he says he does with the US administration.

What support has the SP offered Cuba
What activities have they organised
When did these activities take place
Who in the SP has organised these activities
Where did they take place

Talk is cheap and e.mails to indymedia cheaper.

I make no apologies for saying that we are not in Cuba. In reality we are not a mass force capable of organising in every country in the world. And the likelihood is that if a CWI section in Cuba did begin to organise Mr. Castro wouldn't be too happy. Remember we're Trotskyists, we are hated more by the bureaucrats than they hate capitalists.

We are trying to build our forces internationally. We have sections on all continents in about 36 countries. We are trying to build mass international socialist opposition to capitalism. Is that not support to the people of Cuba?

author by pat cpublication date Wed Nov 27, 2002 17:06author address author phone Report this post to the editors

this is an event advertised as being in solidarity with the people of palestine & the people of cuba, not an event supporting castro or the plo leadership.

yet an sp member took it upon himself to attack the event & sf without stating what the sp position on cuba or palestine was.

if the sp choose to use every republican posting as an opportunity to attack sf then it is hardly rational to call a response "stirring it". is there one law for the sp & another for everyone else?

i'm sure i would be a dissident under the present cuban & palestinian leaderships as would the sp.

author by cynicalpublication date Wed Nov 27, 2002 17:48author address author phone Report this post to the editors

I did not ask if you were organised in Cuba through the CWI I asked what concrete support you as the SP have offered to the people of Cuba
WHAT SUPPORT?
WHEN DID IT HAPPEN?

Is that simple enough?
