US Planes at Knock Airport?

category national | miscellaneous | news report author Tuesday November 05, 2002 15:11author by knock knock Report this post to the editors

just a rumour, don't spread it - just confirm or deny it.

Is there any truth that Knock Airport is also being used by the USA for landing planes?

I had a conversation with a rather drunk gentleman has swore it was true.

any evidence? anyone investigate this yet?

You know there are local newspapers putside Atha Cliath. Why dont you amateur anti war activists and sherlock Holmes write a letter to the Connaught Telegraph or the Western People raising this issue? are you afraid of being corrected by mere culchies who will never have heard of indymedia no doubt.

during particularly misty off peak flying time periods.
So if you´re not able to stop the USAF using an airstrip they covertly designed and paid for, go to Dublin and save the trees.

actually no please don't excuse me, if you're gonna ask me to shut up, please give me a reason as to why I should. Thats all for this stream, if these rumours turn out to be true, then any info will be carried under a new headline.
(Bingabong, you used the term 'bucks' so I assume you're a native too, go on give us a clue)

Alright, so we've got a sighting, although the plane wasn't i.d'd, it does seem very fishy. What we now need is to get someone up there to have a look, and I think I'll be able to do that this weekend, if Pete Muice wants to come on up too, the bit o company would be just grand. As for you bingobong, why do you tell us to hold our tongues, if this is happenin in Knock then its something we have to highlight and try to stop. At this stage we have no concrete evidence except for Muices' sighting, and therefore the next step is to get some photos or at least some more sightings and positive id's on the planes that are landing. And if we do this, I think there is a demo planned for shannon some time in December, so we have to get something organised for knock. At this stage it is really still a rumour, so lets start compiling the book of evidence, eh? The time has come to stand up and be counted brothers of beal atha na muice, thats brothers in a sort of loose non dogmatic anarcho syndicalist way, or no thats just me, its just some of the boize. So anyone in a position to do so, get plane spotting.

I live very close to Knock airport, well close enough to hear most of the flights coming and going....Over the last few weeks ive been up at nite till between thre and four a.m each morning and havnt noticed anything...until..... one nite bout two weeks ago, it was a weekend nite between three and four in the morning as i was walking home from the pub i noticed lights in the sky, i mean the white lights with the flashing red lights..i.e plane lights..It was positioned in the same way that many planes would take approaching Knock airport..I thought it was very strange at the time but thought nothing of it..until now of course, i cant believe it never clicked with me... My sources would tell me that a flight at that time in the morning rarely happens, well certainly not a commercial flight anyway... Pete ranks can give me a shout if he so wishes, he knows where to find me i think...anyway i think that this is another piece of evidence supporting all other information...that nite it was a plane im certain of that, what kind of plane? well i think we all know at this stage....

I'll be going down to check Knock out this weekend, and talk to some people that I know who live in the area, who will certainly know if B-52's are landing there. I'll post any significant info on this site if I get any, will get in touch with shannon spotters if there is any substance to the rumours.

not in the light of this information it is even more important that we have people at knock airport.one night a week would be enough to start.please get in touch with Tim Hourigan in shannon if u r interested.

author by knock knockpublication date Wed Nov 06, 2002 12:26author address author phone Report this post to the editors

the drunk gentleman i was talking with mentioned B-52's - I did not because I did not want to spread the rumor further without confirmation. Not that your rumor is a confirmation of my rumor (!) but it is interesting that it is identical to mine.

let's keep the research going.

k.k.

Just got another unconfirmed report, but from a reliable enough source, that B-52's are landing there at night to refuel. Does anyone know what the possibilities are that this particular type of aircraft are passing this way, have they landed at Shannon? As the professionals might say, more to follow............

I live quite near Knock airport and am originally from even closer, and I haven't heard of any US planes landing there. However, they have landed there before, I remember being brought up to the airport by an uncle of mine some years ago to have a look at 'the jolly green giant', I think there were a couple of hercules transports there at the time, and so the airport can accomadate these aircraft, well if the runway can handle a concord....
I'm involved with the Sligo anti-war group, and will keep my ear to the ground, and will probably take a trip up there at the weekend to suss it out.

- This is the fourth time I've personally heard this, from different sources

Not to say that it couldn't be true, because I don't know one way or the other, but the fact that you've heard this story from different sources could just indicate that this story has been passed around a lot.
If anyone is familiar with Knock airport (or Baldonnell) they may be able to say if they've seen US planes there - or if the airport is even capable of handling that type of plane.
Until then, all we have to go on is whispers in the dark.

maybe Aer Rianta know anyway, sure they do, but your friend in Aer Rianta can hardly prove it if it's not their airport?

am I wrong about that? though Aer Rianta just did Dublin, Cork and Shannon?

who runs the other smaller airports?

author by 1way2checkpublication date Tue Nov 05, 2002 16:02author address author phone Report this post to the editors

someone from galway/mayo anti war groups should go there and have a look. Knock is not at all busy , 3 airlines and about 6 flights a day.

Surely someone reading this lives close enough to make a trip someday this week?
