IRA deccommisioning PLO

category national | miscellaneous | news report author Sunday April 07, 2002 13:13author by publo Report this post to the editors

If the ra are serious about decommissioning their weapons then wouldnt it be more in keeping with their freedom fighter rhetoric to somehow send them to those palestinians fighting against imperialists rather than letting them rot. Its not Politically feasible true but it can be done. As a postsript, its good to hear reports about whats happening up north on the newswire, and i hope it continues.

to answer to pueblo, the ra are not freedom fighters, they control local areas giving locals no say, no choice. they take away from freedom, take away from justice and create more inequality. if this is the idea, a romanticised idealised view, that poeple see the ra in the south then you are much mistaken. to even suggest that they should give their weapons to the palestinians is luducrous. firstly: what are you on about? logistical nightmare. secondly: the ra needs their guns to keep shooting kids in the knees, ancles and legs, if they dont do as they are told.

Terrorist tactics do not work. Marxists should oppose terrorists such as the IRA. Terrorists tactics places no faith in the masses, instead it says to oppressed people, "don't bother yourselves, we''ve the guns we'll sort it out". This is of course totally against the approach taken by Socialists. This attitude of SF haspersisted in their approach to politics in the south. They see SF as being the community and the people's only role is as voting fodder come election time.

THe Palestinian people do have a right to defend themselves with arms and do have a right to self determination. But it is the ordinary people that should be armed and the use of arms controlled through democratic committees of struggle. THe capitalist, corrupt and bureacratic Palestinian Authority can't bring a genuine national liberation movement.

* Israel out of Occupied Territiores immediatly
* A genuine democratic national liberation movement for Palestine.
* An independent socialist Palestine alongside a socilaist Israel.
* A volutnary socialist confederation in the
Middle East
